In the rural ambience, artisans from around the world will put on show and exhibit their finest crafts work that is set to capture hearts of visitors both domestic and international. This year over 800 sculptors and artists are taking part in the Surajkund Craft Fair from across the globe.
This cultural festival has been rechristened this year and from now own it will be referred to as the Surajkund International Crafts Mela. There are 22 participant countries from around the world which includes countries from Eurasia and the SAARC regions including Pakistan.
The 27th edition of Surajkund Crafts Mela is featuring Karnataka as the theme state after a long hiatus of 19 years. This annual fair held at Surajkund near Faridabad, Haryana promotes diverse arts, heritage and traditions of India and its regions.

A weeklong affair in the close vicinity of Delhi, Surajkund Crafts Mela is held every year from 1st February to 15th February in Faridabad, Haryana. First time it was held in year 1981. Surajkund Crafts Mela is for displaying folk arts and crafts from all over the nation. The mela marks a distinctive occasion for the talented artists, weavers, painters, sculptors and craftsmen from different regions of India, to display their skill.
Each year a state of India is chosen and featured at Surajkund and it also decides the motif of mela decor. Every year a new state is chosen as the theme and the entire decoration is changed accordingly. Visitors at Surajkund Craft Mela have the option to shop for exquisite textiles, paintings, ivory work, wood stock, terracotta, pottery, lac work, grass work and stone work.
Although the fair is hosted each year to promote the local artisans and crafts from all around India to preserve, encourage and promote the local art and craft of specific regions of India, one of the highlights of the Surajkund Craft Mela is performances at the special Natyashala.
At the open air Natyashala, folk dance and regional music are performed by local artists from different states and regions of India. From the dance & songs of harvest to the dance of devotion, the performances enacted are sure to leave you enthralled and asking for more. Even International performers from various countries come down to showcase their talent and culture at Surajkund Mela. All these and more makes Surajkund Mela on of the must attend events if you are in and around Delhi at this time of the year.
