The Universal Joint West Asheville
West Asheville's Hang Out
The Universal Joint, or "U-joint" as it is known to the locals has shot it's way to the top of favorite pubs in the quickly growing west side of Asheville. The location was originally a repair shop and gas station which sat vacant for years before getting new life as a cornerstone of the community!
The Asheville Universal Joint location is not the first time the owners have rehabbed an old gas station or service center into an eatery. They have a number of locations and "sister sites" across the south including "The Brake Pad" in Atlanta. Asheville locals are glad they moved to the neighborhood and have become such great neighbors to this hip side of the quirky southern city.
Local beers, a giant outdoor patio and a bar menu to die for make this spot worth checking out. The pub is literally the "fork" in the road splitting Haywood and Sulpher Springs Road in half. Diners are in the middle of the downtown action sipping a full array of local beers and cocktails plus a burger that is to die for! Crispy tator tots replace french fries and Spicy chicken egg rolls are the spotlight of the appetizer menu! Other items include veggie potstickers, sesame encrusted tilapia salad, steak sandwiches, buffalo chicken sandwiches and gyros!
The owners of the U-joint have wasted no time giving back to the community they feed! A few weeks ago the entire wait staff and local celebrity "servers" donated their tips to support a local child who had a severe brain tumor. The pub raised over $3000 in one night for the cause and had an awesome time doing it.
Stroll on down to The Universal Joint for a relaxed lunch, upbeat dinner or laid back beer with friends. You will feel like a regular the first time and be back again and again! Cheers!
Yet another reason to "go west" and see what is new in West Asheville. The Universal Joint is a winner.
