Tips at Disney Restaurants

Updated on June 18, 2017

We went to Disney for a week from 15-23 Nov and had a fabulous time. The only issue we had was the handling of the tips at the sit down restaurants. We had the dining plan and were aware that we would have to cover tips and this was figured in to the budget. The problem we had was the way it was handled at the restaurants. We were a party of nine so we were aware that gratuity would be added automatically to our check. We decided not to add a credit card to our key to the world, and when we handed our card to the waiters they went off and ran the plans (we were on two seperate.) When several of them came back they circled the amount of the tip in bright red and asked how we would like to pay for the rest.

The problem I have with that is the rudeness. I don't know if it comes across in this post but it was expected, which I think is a big problem. We are good tippers, my mom, mil, and husband all worked in food service so the waiter always gets at least 20% and more if they are really good, but to circle it and almost demand it was rude. I'm not sure what a solution to this problem would be but I just disliked the manner in which it was handled and wish I had addressed it while I was there.

So what do you think? Am I making a bigger deal out of this than it should be or do I have legitimate reasons to be annoyed? I didn't let it hinder my vacation but it did bother me.

In that situation, I would've asked to speak directly to the manager, explain that I thought it was rude (and why), and not paid them the full tip. You have every right to be annoyed at this!
