Tips for Travel - Top 5 Tips for Traveling the World

Tips for Traveling - Get Organised and Get Going!

Finding useful tips for travel can be quite overwhelming. Learning how to get around and what activities you can do are key to having a great experience.

In this lens I would like to share with you some of my top 5 tips for traveling which I've use on all my adventures. These tips have really helped me out so much that I am sure they'll do the same for you.

Travel Tip #1: Travel Insurance

A crucial essential or waste of money?

It's crucial to find out if your insurance company will cover you while you're overseas.

In the event of an emergency, cost will definitely not be your first concern. That being said can and will become a third or fourth concern. Having this expense seems unnecessary, but as the saying goes, "it's better to be safe than sorry".

You should also make sure you have the address and phone number of your countries embassy. In an emergency you want to have this information readily available. Definitely one of the most essential tips for travel I can think of.

Travel Tip #2: Choosing Your Airfare

Why cheap is not necessarily a good thing...

Shop around for cheap airfares, but don't go too cheap... Sure some prices may seem to good to be true and at times they can be.

Some of these offer provide great value, though don't have the same level of security that you might get from paying just a few dollars extra and knowing your flight won't be cancelled on the last minute. Use your common sense and don't be too stingy.

A great resource I have used in the past is Expedia.com. This is a great website which offers comparisons on airfare deals as well as other travel information.

Once you've found the most suitable option, go and check that airline's website. Usually the fare will be even cheaper especially if you have a promotional code.

Travel Tip #3 - Finding the Right Accommodation

Make your travel experience a comfortable one

Check your accommodation rates over and over again, don't go for the first option that is available. You should also begin doing your research at least two to three months in advance. By planning with enough time you allow yourself the flexibility to make any last minute changes to your itinerary.

One great option to consider is timeshare rentals. If you are planning a week-long vacation, renting timeshare can save you hundreds on the cost of accommodation.

Not sure what timeshare is? Don't sweat it...neither did I, so let me explain...

Essentially these are resorts, hotels, condos or any other form of accommodation that is held by a group of owners rather than a sole individual. The benefits of timeshare is that you can usually get some great deals.

Consider these when making your next accommodation booking!

Travel Tip #4: Spending Your Money

Don't go bankrupt, consider your expenses

Take twice the money you originally think you'll need - it's fair to say when you're traveling the cost of food and general activities will be where your major expenses occur. If you can try and buy your food in a shop and don't eat in restaurants all the time.

Try not to carry cash on you, or at least note too much of it. Instead use ATM machines whenever possible.

You should also notify your credit card companies when traveling for long periods of time. The last thing you want to happen is to have your cards cancelled by your credit card company because they believed the card has been stolen.

Travel Tip #5: Getting Around

Explore cities in a timely fashion

If at all possible, try and avoid public transport. It's slow and inefficient which will not be your best option if you're limited on travel time.

Of course this varies from country to country. Each will have their own reliability on the public transport people use.

My recommendation would be to instead rent a car with a GPS. This way you will not be restricted to any specific time lines as you'll be on your own schedule. Just remember tip #4, don't go overboard and rent yourself a Ferrrari. Something modest that will get you from A to B is all you really need.

[BONUS] Travel Tip #6: Be Safe and Have Fun!

A decision you'll never regret

Overall just go with the flow. Traveling, especially aboard is one of the best experiences you will ever have. You'll meet tons people who just want to see the world and have a good time doing it, just like you!

Absorb all the sites, take your time with it all and don't let it pass you by with out you actually experience all that you can.

If you follow these top travel tips it'll get you started on the right path and make you that much more prepared for your journey.
