Top 10 Best Reasons to Visit Disneyland
Why Visit Disneyland?
There are many great reasons to visit Disneyland, located in Orange County, California. Opened in 1955, Disneyland has been a place for young and old alike to enjoy being a kid and escaping the outside world, while engaging in all the magic Walt Disney created.
I first visited Disneyland as a child and now a year doesn't go by when I don't take my kids there. We have so many fond memories of this place. This list is in no particular order.

1. Meet Disney Characters
Disneyland is a wonderful place to meet your favorite Disney characters. The best time to meet them is in the morning when the park opens. You can find them in the Main Street area. They can also be found at character dining venues such as Ariel's Grotto in California Adventure.
My personal favorite is Goofy's Kitchen located at the Disneyland Hotel. It's an all you can eat buffet served up by Goofy and friends. Lots of photo opportunities along with autograph collecting is available.
Look for Minnie and Mickey Mouse in Toontown, while Tinker Bell and friends can be found in Pixie Hollow. If hoping to meet Disney Princesses, head over to the Disney Princess Faire, located near Small World in Fantasyland. My youngest daughter loves this!
Kids can get very excited when they get to meet their favorite characters. Be sure to have a camera on hand. Also, consider getting an autograph book. I know when my kids were younger they loved getting autographs of the different Disney characters.

Disneyland Autograph Book
Children have so much fun with these. They can take them around the park to get autographs of their favorite Disney characters. They can also use them if they eat at a character dining restaurant.

2. Best Disneyland Rides
Disneyland has some of the best themed rides in the world. Live the life of a pirate on Pirates of the Caribbean. This ride is particularly dear to my heart because it's the first ride that each of my kids experienced when they were younger.
Ride a roller coaster in the dark on Space Mountain. Journey into outer space on Star Tours and take a trip around the world in Small World. Younger kids will have a blast in Mickey's Toontown on Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin. Also, be sure to check out the rides in Fantasyland where such rides await as Peter Pan's Flight.
I personally love the Indiana Jones Adventure where you enter into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, along with a park favorite, The Jungle Cruise. I also recommend the Matterhorn Bobsleds, if you enjoy roller coaster type rides. Honestly, this doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of all of the wonderful rides here.

Haunted Mansion in Disneyland
This is truly a family favorite. 999 spooks reside here. Are you ready to be the next one? Some say it's haunted for real. So, are you ready to step into your Doom Buggy? Haunted Mansion photo by Aung Myin Ko at Wikimedia Commons
Splash Mountain Ride in Disneyland
This is one of my family's favorite rides. It's based on the movie Song of the South. Watch out for the drop, though. It's a pretty big one and your picture gets taken on the way down.Splash Mountain photo by SolarSurfer at Wikimedia Commons.

3. Disney's California Adventure
Disneyland isn't the only Disney theme park in California. Just across the way is California Adventure. Like Disneyland, it is divided into several different themed lands. It's come a long way since it first opened becoming a wonderful family theme park.
Take in the scenery of the Golden State with Soarin' Over California. Enjoy 3D fun with It's Tough to be a Bug. Have some wilderness fun at Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. My family has spent a lot of time here.
My two personal favorite rides here are California Screamin', (my favorite roller coaster ride of all time,) and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Of course, there are many more rides and attractions geared for younger guests such as Monsters Inc. Mike and Sully to the Rescue and The Little Mermaid-Ariel's Undersea Adventure.

Join Mickey Mouse as he allows his imagination to create a night spectacular show along the Rivers of America. The show contains Disney characters, cartoons and state of the art special effects. This is a family favorite of ours.Fantasmic photo by Alfred A. Si at Wikimedia Commons.
5. Disney's World of Color
This is another wonderful nighttime spectacular Disney has to offer. It's performed at California Adventure. Here's a short clip of it.

Although you can use a Fast Pass to get a seating voucher for the show, in reality, you don't actually sit. You stand. Just a heads up for those traveling with younger kids.

6. Disneyland Entertainment
Besides the above, there is much entertainment to be enjoyed in Disneyland. There's the musicians on Main Street and the cool sounds of New Orleans Square. Have some good old fun with Billy Hill and the Hillbillies or get some training at the Jedi Training Academy.
Parades are a must see! The highlight of the night is the spectacular Fireworks at Disneyland Park. Keep in mind, there are even more shows for your enjoyment at California Adventure.

7. Eating at Disneyland
There are numerous dining options available at Disneyland. You can find anything from fast food, to casual dining and my favorite, The Blue Bayou, which is a full service dining restaurant located by Pirates of the Caribbean. I recommend the Filet Mignon and the Isle Cruses Crab Cakes.
Of course, many other dining options await both at California Adventure and at Downtown Disney including Italian and Mexican. The photo shows just one option which is The House of Blues which features Cajon-Creole food.

If looking for a quick snack, try one of the skewers at Bengal Barbecue. Yum!
8. Disneyland Shopping
One of my favorite things to do is to shop at Disneyland. There are so many fun and unique items to buy. Being the huge Disney fan that I am, I can always find some new cool item to add to my collection.
What I love to do is to take lots of pictures each time we go, then afterwards, place some of the pictures in Disney photo frames which I display on my living room shelves.
There are many shops to explore along Main Street, although you'll find stores scattered throughout the park. You can find everything from toys, cookware, food, decorations, prints, magic tricks, music and just about anything else you can think of.

10. Disneyland Expansion - New Cars Land
A really great thing about Disneyland is that it is always expanding and changing. This gives guests a reason to come back over and over again. Whether it's a new land, ride, show or attraction, Disneyland continues to add new thrills for guests to enjoy.
One word of caution, though. Lines for new rides and attractions can be long. I remember being in Disneyland when the Finding Nemo ride first opened. I was talking to a cast member who told me some people were waiting up to six hours in line to go on the ride!

If you need a break from the heat and crowds, check out Innoventions in Tomorrowland. It takes a futuristic look at the world and what we can expect in the future. This is fun for both adults and kids.
I hope you have found my Disneyland list to be helpful. I will forever enjoy all of the family memories from here. My kids have grown up with Disney and at ages where each of them have their own interests, I feel blessed that all of them, along with my husband, always look forward to visiting "The Happiest Place on Earth."If you go, I hope you have a great time.
