Must See Tourist Spot for New Year, Christmas, Honeymoon vacations - Malaysia

Updated on August 15, 2009

I recently visited Malaysia for my vacations. It was a wonderful experience - Islands, natural beauty, wonderful weather, resorts, sightseeing, water sports. I am going to share some of the photos with you. If you really want to visit a peaceful destination during your upcoming vacations and holidays of christmas and new year, do include the beautiful islands of Malaysia in your list.

Malaysia is located North of Australia, adjacent to Thailand and surrounded by other vacation destinations like Singapore, and Indonesia. Tourists from all over the world travel to these beautiful islands for their honeymoon, new year and christmas vacations.

The weather in Malaysia is quite pleasant throughout the year with average temperatures varying between 20 - 30 degree Celsius. Being an island country it is generally warm and humid throughout the day but nights are much cooler.

There are some very exciting places, not only the vibrant cities like Kuala Lumpur, but a range of beautiful islands with beaches of different types. One of the most famous destinations tourists travel to is the Langkawi Islands. Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands. Langkawi boasts lovely beaches alongwith attractive scenery of green hills spread throughout the islands. Merely traveling on the roads of Langkawi is a terrific experience.

Lost in Langkawi

One day we decided to explore Langkawi and therefore rented a car. It was a little car, good enough for the two of us, named Perodua Viva - a Malaysian brand. I first went to get some fuel so that we can roam safely on the roads of the beautiful island. After filling the tank it was decided to go to some beach. We started following the inforation provided on the signboards of Langkawi. We thought we were going to a beach named Tengah but we were actually on a wrong road. This turned out to be a very refreshing experience as the road/highway we were travelling on provided us a chance to see the scenery which we could have never seen. On one side of the road was a vast stretch of sea water with islands here and there and on the other side were beautiful lush green hills densely covered with trees of different types. We stopped at a few spots on the road to enjoy the scenery. Well, we then ultimately returned back to the plae we started from and reached our hotel. By the way, we then found that the Tengah beach was located at a five minutes walking distance from our hotel.

Water Sports

Once on a beach you can never resist to indulge yourself in a variety of water sports-Water Scooter, dinghy sailing, parasailing, windsurfing. My own experience is that such sports is a bit costly. I rented a water scooter for half and hour and it cost me RM 120 (RM = Malysian Ringgit).

Shopping / Restaurants

Never try to have your meal on a restaurant unless you have surveyed at least 3/4 restaurants. Moreover hotel in which you are staying will always charge you more than the restaurants outside. Mine charged me more than three times for some items. For example a bottle of mineral water available at stores for RM 1 was given to me for RM 3.3 by my hotel. Similarly, a dinner for the two of us cost me RM 50 and I later explored that we can have a much better meal in only RM 20. So, my advise is if you want to enjoy your holidays to the fullest by not putting extra burden in your pocket then do wander around the area where restaurants are located and you will certainly hit a restaurant providing meals of your choice and at a cheaper rate.

Like all tourist destinations, in Langkawi too the shopping centers sell items at a very high rate. We did buy a few items of imitation jewelery from there but not much. I think it is a wonderful place, we are here to enjoy our holidays and going for shopping should not be our priority.

Malaysia is not just about beaches. There are wonderful highlands which are properly managed and developed to cater literally thousands of tourists daily. The most famous is the Genting highlands near Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

Genting is a famous destination for tourists with extraordinary theme parks, shopping centres, and other entertainment spots. If you are in Genting, expect it to be cool even during the summer months of June and July as it is situated more than 6000 feet above the sea level. Temperatures normally range between 15 and 25 degree Celsius.

Reaching to Genting is an exciting as well as a thrilling experience. The hotels built at the peak are so huge that we could see them while riding up the mountain. At one point in our jounery we discovered that we are literally above the clouds. Here our car driver switched off the car AC and opened the windows. The fresh, cold air welcomed us to an exciting experience of Genting.

We were amazed to see the huge hotels of Genting. The check in area of the hotel we stayed at was larger than the check-in areas of many airports I have seen. All hotels are connected together to the indoor theme park. There is an outdoor theme park too with lots of rides.

Cable Car

One of the popular attractions for tourist visiting Genting is the cable car. They claimed it to be the longest and fastest cable car in Asia. I must say that it was very safe and provided a good view of the mountains.

Check out my pages loaded with beautiful images dedicated specially to the Langkawi Island, and Kuala Lumpur.
