Traveling to Costa Rica Too?

Updated on December 18, 2014

Tropical, Friendly, Fascinating, Beautiful

Costa Rica is another one of my all time favorite places in the world to visit. When I first set out to visit, I looked online for videos and photos from regular travelers to get an idea of what I'd be experiencing. That helped a lot! Since then I've made it a personal commitment to collect and post my own photos and videos, as home made as they are in quality and content. Looking back at them now brings back beautiful memories and a smile as I see the improvement in the technology from earliest to the most recent videos.

I hope something you see here will inspire you to visit Costa Rica.

A Walk Through The Rainforest In Costa Rica - Hanging Bridges Near Arenal

Here is a short video of the hanging bridges walk I recommended elsewhere in this lens. Although we started at 8 am, we now know to go even earlier. At about 9-10 large tour busses started to arrive with loud, loud, loud, tourists. If you want to see wild life, you have to go before the rowdy tourists start disturbing the habitat.

Costa Rica on Amazon - Be Prepared!

I used to be a show up and see what happens kind of traveler. Now, when I know I'm going somewhere, I read up before I go, sometimes travel guides like these, sometimes other lenses and blogs to see what ordinary travelers have to say about the extraordinary places the world is filled up with.

Ocotel Beach

The nature of the beach and panoramic view of the ocean is that it makes a person gooey, as can be seen in this video where I can't tell the difference between the ocean and a pool. This video is taken at Ocotel Beach near the Ocotel resort. The hotel is a bit run down, but the staff is spectacularly friendly and helpful and the views are amazing. It was difficult getting on the bus and heading inland after spending four days here.

Scenes from Costa Rica - Memories

Slides from a recent trip. Taken with iPhone 3. Few days at the beach, then inland to Arenal for zip-lining, hanging bridges and hot water springs.

Beaches, Sunsets and Rainforests - Filmed on a blackberry

One of my very first trips to Costa Rica. It was very difficult to leave the beach and see everything else the country has to offer. See for yourself, those sunsets are not to be rushed through.

View from the sky - we got lost driving around Costa Rica, but it was worth it for the views, except when I panicked about the roads disappearing into crumbling soil and ravines below. We stopped a lot to look. There was a wild creature that made a noise like a bear, probably a wild pig I'm guessing, down that way. Although I am smiling for the camera, I was frightened indeed.Above the treeline in the Yoga Pavilion at Lost Iguana, a group of us years later sit and chat about the day's experience.Ready for Ziplining near Arenal. Professional staff helped make the experience amazing! Favorite answer to the question "Has anyone fallen off this thing?" -- "Not today."

Playa de Coco - found a great beach side cafe with a european flavor, outstanding food and gorgeous views.Ocotal Beach Resort, sitting on the lawn watching the sun rise during morning meditation with a group of fellow travelers. Gorgeous. Resort was a bit run down, but the views make up for everything and the staff, super nice.Lost Iguana Resort in Arenal area - beautiful hotel, beautiful staff, beautiful surroundings. Finally Wi-Fi, so what if we had to hang over the balcony to get it! :)Arenal volcano in the background under the cloud cover. This is on the road from Lost Iguana hotel to the Hanging Bridges state park. I recommend going early, early, early, in the morning to avoid loud busses of unconscious tourists who don't know
