St. Augustine, Florida - History, Hauntings & Beauty

Updated on September 10, 2014

My favorite vacation spot in Florida.

I have visited St. Augustine twice and would go back 100 times more!

St. Augustine is packed full of history, beauty and things to do. You can take a horse and carriage around the city, visit historical landmarks, do a guided ghost tour or if you are brave, go on your own ghost tour.

On this lens you will find some highlights from my vacations to this awesome American city.

History of St. Augustine

Many people don't know that St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the United States. I live in Florida and I did not know the history of St. Augustine, until I visited. The tours are a fantastic learning experience!

The Spanish established St. Augustine 42 years before the English colonized Jamestown and 55 years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. Read more St. Augustine history.

Ghost Tours

St Augustine, Florida is infamous for its many haunted sites due to its extensive, rich history. Ghost tours are offered on about every block of the city.

Of my 2 visits to St. Augustine, I have not yet done the ghost tour thing. My husband is a skeptic and thinks is all just a crazy, scam. If you are interested click here to read more about my orb encounter.

Tours and Wine Tasting

This is a great place to stop if you like doing wine tours, as I do! This St Augustine location is not a vineyard, however the grapes are grown in Florida at San Sebastian sister winery in Clermont, Florida: Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards. The wines are the same with different names. I have visited both locations.

I love sweet so the Vintners Red & Vintners White are my favorites. The Rose is great too. Last time I visited they had a sparkling wine too. It was delicious.

Wine Tour Schedule

Tours run about every 20-25 minutes, lasting approximately 45 minutes in length and offered seven days a week, (except for major holidays).

Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m

If you live in Florida, you can purchase these wines at Publix Supermarket. They run about 9 - 10 dollars a bottle.
