White Moss House,my home, once owned by Wordsworth
My home at White Moss House
Welcome to my home, White Moss House, owned by poet William Wordsworth.
Located in the beautiful White Moss, Grasmere area, White Moss House, dating from 1730, was bought by the poet William Wordsworth, for his son, Willie , in 1827.
White Moss House house dates back to 1730.
White Moss House, until recently an excellent Lake District bed and breakfast, is situated at White Moss Common, a beautiful spot 1 mile from Grasmere Village.
White Moss House has been famous for many years as a wonderful small hotel and restaurant. We are now retired, and White Moss House is now our very lovely home.

This portrait of William Wordsworth and his wife Mary, the owners of White Moss House. It was painted in 1839 at Rydal Mount. William often visited White Moss House to visit his son and family when he lived 15 minutes walk away at Rydal Mount
The Wordsworth Lounge at White Moss House.
White Moss House was extended by the Wordsworth family. This impressive lounge, with its log fire, was added around 1860. The house was originally 3 cottages, built around 1730. Nowadays, if you want to alter any part of the building, you have to go through a very tough planning consent procedure, but the Wordsworths , back in the 19th Century, just added on wings to both sides of the house to please themselves! No problem!
The ceiling in the lounge is very high- it's a rather grand room, whereas the ceiling in the dining room and hall, part of the old cottages, is very low. The two parts are totally different architectural styles, but somehow, its all in harmony.
