Winter in Missouri
Missouri Winter through the Eye of a Camera
Winter can be a challenging time for a photographer, but with patience and the proper equipment there are many beautiful scenes to photograph. When the weather is icy and snowy, I don't wander far from my home area, so the winter photographs I am highlighting are all from Missouri area and all within 50 miles of the St. Louis metro area. Many are taken in my own neighborhood.
Weather in Missouri can be unpredictable, we might have temperature below freezing one day and 50 degree temperatures the next day. In a typical year we get about 18.5 inches of snow in the St. Louis area, as of 2/23/10 this season has been a light one on snow with only 10.7 inches in the metro area. It seems like they've predicted snow a lot, but then when it comes it is always lighter than has been predicted. The heavy snow falls have been to the west in the Kansas City and Springfield areas.
The lighter snows have made for some pretty winter scenes. I have made several outings with my camera in hand to photograph the local area adorned with a coat of new snow! I hope you enjoy my pictorial tour.

What is your favorite season?
Do you enjoy the hot days of summer or the cold days of winter? Perhaps you love fall when the air is crisp and the leaves are beautiful or spring when all the flowers are in bloom. Of course you may live where the change of seasons are not as evident as they are in my home in Missouri.
What is you favorite time of the year?
Winter at the Creek - Hwy T by Foristell, MO
We stopped by a bridge overpass to take this photo of a partially frozen creek.
Snow-Early Morning Shadows
I took this photo in the early morning after a new snowfall of about 2-3 inches. The photo was taken in my front yard. I like the way the early morning sun casts shadows on the snowy bush.

Cardinals in the Snow
These two Cardinals were on my back patio eating bird seed that had fallen from the feeder. The bright red bird is the male cardinal and the less colorful bird is the female.
Bush of Snow Blossoms
Just the day before this bush had looked dull and brown. Today it is full of little "blossoms" of snow. A beautiful sight!
I took this photo out my back door during an evening snowfall.
Geese on Pond
These geese were on the pond in front of The Butterfly House.
Goose in the Snow
This goose was walking in the snow near The Butterfly House

Robin in Snow
I was sitting at a doctors office looking out some large windows fascinated by the robins in the snow. I pulled a camera from my purse and was able to capture this robin all puffed up in the winter cold.
