World's 10 best beaches

Updated on October 7, 2011

World's best beaches

There are many beautiful beaches in the world but it's hard to choose what's best for you. Some people like to feel themselves as Robinson Crusoe, left alone with nature while others prefer hotels and busy beach life. This lens will take you to the shores of Australia, through the coasts of the Mediterranean towards the islands of the Caribbean.

We have chosen a dozen of the best beaches from the locations unknown by the majority of travelers even though they might be nearby. Have you ever been to any of these wonders of the Universe? We would be glad to hear your stories. See if you like them and post comments about our top list and your other favorite places.

Wineglass bay, Australia

Wineglass bay, Australia
Wineglass bay, Australia

East coast of Tasmania has a unique attraction, fairly unknown even to the Australians. Wineglass Bay beach takes the first spot in our top 10 best beaches in the world for its never-ending beauty. It's an undiscovered paradise kept for the traveler who deserves it, it's a romantic getaway for couples and a perfect spot for anyone who respects the quality of unspoiled nature.

Lanikai Beach, Hawaii

This Hawaiian beach is considered the heaven inside heaven, the dream of poets with its crystal clear calm waters and softest sand. Lanikai Beach has a tranquil atmosphere due to the offshore reef protecting it from waves and unwanted sea creatures. It's ideal for snorkeling enthusiasts and divers as well as beach dwellers with a great sense of a true relaxing holiday. Lanikai Beach takes the second place in our list.

Sardinia beach, Italy

It's a nice change to leave an already beautiful shore of the Italian mainland and taking a ferry from Civitavecchia (near Rome) makes the trip even more exciting. There are two nice destinations Olbia and Cagliari where the boat takes you. As you enter the port of Olbia you feel the big difference, especially in the early morning when the air has the flavor of an island of exceptional beauty. I wouldn't recommend visiting Sardinia in August as all the Italians flock to the beaches, the ferries are full and prices high.

Santa Teresa di Gallura beach, Sardinia

Olu Deniz beach, Turkey

Turkey has indeed something to offer in our world's top beaches and Olu deniz for sure is not only the most attractive place for the locals. It's a blue lagoon separated by a small peninsula from the sea shaping up two fabulous stretches of sand. The bathing season never ends here with the temperatures comfortable for anyone throughout the year.

Tianya Haijiao beach, China

Tianya Haijiao is Chinese greatest beach located in Hainan Province. It's the south-most point of China washed by the South China Sea. The beach has rocks with strange roundish shapes which make you believe in a story behind this wonders of nature. The rocks are symbolic in Chinese ancient culture, some of them have signs and pictograms of poetry.

Paradis beach, Mauritius

Paradis beach, Mauritius
Paradis beach, Mauritius

The white coral sand of Paradis beach in Mauritius, calm azure water and a magnificent scenery with a mountain - all of these would be the descriptive features of any paradise place such as this one. The beach is not easy to get to if you are not a guest of the (expensive) hotel of the same name. You can still walk across a lagoon on a narrow strip of land during a tide and find yourself in heaven :)

La Digue Island, Seychelles - One of many beaches

La Digue Island Seychelles
La Digue Island Seychelles

Unbelievable landscapes and shores with dinosaurs looking gigantic rock formations make the island of La Digue one of the favorite places in the world for its super-exotic looking nature.

Foul Beach, Barbados

Foul Beach, Barbados
Foul Beach, Barbados

The name of this beach doesn't speak for itself and you can see why. Or may be its beauty is a magical trap and you will fail to leave this place? I haven't been here yet but getting closer as i am in the Caribbean right now, so stay connected i might get myself stuck on this beach... wait, and how would i update this lens from there? lol

Los Cabos beach, Mexico

This is what many people like the most, high rocks and little sandy beaches in-between. You can find this very patch of Rocks crushing this little peninsula between the cities of San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.

The best beach in Dominican Republic - Playa Grande, Cabrera, DR

Playa Grande is just amazing, a far away location from hustle, no hotels, supermarkets, bars and restaurants around, just a mile of soft sand and the nature of the Atlantic ocean with The Caribbean touch. You can see how Playa Grande looks like on the video below. Have i taken this video? The answer would be, - Yes, i did, standing right there filming and dropping the camera to jump in the ocean to swing on the waves :)

Isla Saona

Here is another good beach. I recently came from Saona, the island of blue calm waters and true Caribbean feeling. This island can be reached by a boat, it takes about 30 minutes to get there, depending on the speed of your ride. There are tours to this island too which offer lunch on this beach as well.

Sorry about the promotional part. I Live in the DR and have went to a large number of the beaches here. I've written more about Las Terrenas than the other areas because it's my families favorite area to go in the DR. I've been to beaches all round the DR with the exception of the Punta Cana area

@NorDac LM: Well, i wouldn't consider your site promotion post as a vote for Las Terrenas but hey, please list the best beaches of Las Terrenas. Thanks

Not Sure I would put Playa Grande as the DR's best beach. I personally like the beaches in Las Terrenas (Dominican Republic) better. Especially for wind-boarding and snorkeling.

Although I do love Playa Grande and it is definitely among the top in my list for beaches here in the DR I prefer Playa Coson in the Samana Peninsula. Largely untouched, it has the feel of being on your own deserted island. No vendors, soft, golden sand - paraiso. I hope to have the opportunity to visit the others on your list.

Great travel post. I like the rather unusual inclusion of Tianya Haijiao beach, China too, nice touch.

Wineglass Bay, simply heavenly. It's nice to know that Australia has a beach that made it on to your list. The other beaches also look great, and I definitely want to go to each one but that picture you choose of Wineglass is simply perfect and shows why it was your number one choice! Look at the water alone!

@TheDisneyVacation: There is a place nice to reflect right near a small town of Santa Teresa di Gallura there is Capo Testa with nice views of the French island of Corsica. If you hang out with the locals they will point a secret GOA place of Sardinia with two little lagoons in-between rocky mountains of white color. Hippies live there and walk around naked :)

Looks calm on Sardinia, Italy. Surely, it would be a nice place to reflect!
