My real name is frank nyikos. Both sides of my family are Hungarian, thus the weird looking last name. It comes from a large river that runs through the country.
My post will concentrate on my extensive gardening experience. I have been gardening since childhood on a small family farm. I learned most of my skills from my mom and paternal grandmother. My maternal grandfather was skilled as well. He passed away before I was able to learn from him though I do have scions of some of his favorite the Rose of Sharon.
My other passion is teaching. I have been teaching at a community college the past 10 years or more. Prior to that I was a private tutor of math. Math will show up in my blog.
Because I grew up with a 100% Hungarian heritage you will see some recipes from my childhood. I will post favorite recipes whether they are Hungarian or simply favorites.
I have a self published book on hybridizing called Hybridizing ABC's. I have approximately 50 registered hosta and daylilies to date. Included in the 50 is a single hybrid daffodil I hybridized.
I was a regular contributor to a Canadian gardening magazine called The Indoor Gardener. It is now out of print. This was a bi monthly magazine exploring all the latest news and views about growing plants indoors especially through hydroponic means.
I also write for http://decodedplants.com where you can also see other garden related articles posted.
