He won multiple Utah state championships in freestyle wrestling, and ultimately placed 2nd in state, in high school wrestling. Mike was a member of the USA National Kickboxing team for three years. His most proud accomplishment, in competition, was winning the Gold Medal in the International Police Olympic Games, defeating a world-renowned fighter from Russia for the Gold Medal. Professionally, Mike was a police officer for 11 years. Simultaneously, he has owned and operated a martial arts studio since he was 16 years of age. His unique brand of Kickboxing ‘Level system’ was featured in, and recognized by, Martial Arts Professional Magazine as being the first of it’s kind, and was hailed as an innovative way to teach kickboxing to the masses, while enjoying good retention with his students.

On August 5, 2000, Mike started the Ultimate Combat Experience (UCE). UCE was the first promotion in the country to be televised on network television. It was also the first promotion to put on live events on a weekly basis. To date, UCE is the only promotion to have done this for any sustainable amount of time, and boasts the most LIVE MMA promotions of any other organization in the world, with over 400 events.
