Visionary woman, nonprofit consultant & proponent of significant social change through more efficient philanthropy, Kimberly Brock is at her core an urban wannabe, lover of shoes and mother of two always-singing little girls. Her nonprofit vision became obvious at the young age of 10, when she and her twin sister were named "Volunteers of the Year" by the local SPCA for deciding to fund new kennels by raising over $600 washing cars on weekends (that was a lot back then!).
Kim's passion for philanthropy bloomed into a career direction while enrolled at UF, where she received her BA degree; and at USF where she received a Master's degree in communications & nonprofit management. She has also received an Accreditation in Public Relations, and is currently finishing her Certification for Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).
After college, Kim made a few twists working mainly in the nonprofit sector, but drifted over to corporate management when she had the opportunity to learn from and work with her hero and mentor - her father. She has also held several nonprofit leadership positions, including president of the Drug Prevetion Resource Center, where she led the organization out of bankrupsy and secured numerous state and federal grants; and President/CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Lakeland, where she raised over $70 million dollars for the young organization informally named the "fastest growing foundation in the southeast".
Most recently Kim was moved to action after her twin sister was suffering from severe pain and Kim was unable to find useful information to help. She saw a need, and she filled it. Llark Media, a small publishing company focused on educating pain sufferers to lead a better quality of life, now has three national publications. Its award-winning primary publication, Pain Resource, and sister website are growing daily, providing useful information to millions of pain sufferers. The publishing company also prints The Patient, a magazine targeted to hospitalized patients providing helpful information to make their stay more enjoyable, less stressful and most effective; and Pain Resource Journal, targeted to physicians and providing the most cutting edge information on pain management.
Kim’s talents, however, are not limited to business. She trained to teach aerobics at age 15 & was one of the first people hired by Reebok International to certify instructor's in the still popular "Step Aerobics"; and to her knowledge she still holds the record for youngest national certifier for the Aerobics & Fitness Association of America. Always passionate about finding innovative ways to impact social change, she ran for Florida State Representative when she was 22 (Kim was unsuccessful, and decided politics was not for her, but learned many things that have led her career into nonprofit capacity building).
Kim can usually be found enjoying laser tag with her family, volunteering or thinking up something fresh & fabulous with her colleagues & clients.
