As former City Editor and Entertainment Editor of the Cleveland Call & Post and its Showtime Arts & Entertainment Magazine, Talise D. Moorer led the popular weekly tabloid to winning the NNPA’s Ellington-Armstrong Award as the Best Entertainment Section in the country. Showtime’s acclaim proved profitable to the state-wide newspaper, generating unprecedented revenues from its annual Special Anniversary Edition.
Her career as a journalist was catapulted from the local set of Positive Images, a primetime cable television program which she hosted and co-executive produced, to capturing national attention with feature reporting on many of the biggest stars in film, music, fashion and literary industries. With co-hosting TV-8’s Black Expo USA television special, Talise went on to cover everything from the Oscars and the Grammys to the Dove Awards, Presidential Elections, as well as press junkets for Disney, Hollywood, Columbia and Tri-Star Pictures and many other significant happenings across the country.
Talise’s feature interviewees include such legends as Quincy Jones, Lena Horne, Whitney Houston, The Temptations, Gladys Knight, James Beluchi, Martin Sheen, Lawrence Fishburne, Tina Turner, Angela Bassett, Stevie Wonder, Whoopie Goldberg, Denzel Washington and Tupac Shakur to name a few.
In the mid 90’s Talise joined the press pool of the New York Amsterdam News where she contributed significant coverage of such mainstream news as Hurricane Katrina: the displacement of victims housed in a New York Hotel (with an exclusive interview with New Orleans then Mayor Ray Nagin); the murder of 6 year-old NixzMary Brown: a three part series of abused and neglected children and systemic problems at NYC’s Administration of Children’s Services (ACS) that foreshadow at-risk families; and the prolific investigation of the Pinnacle Group leading to a series of administrative and public hearings resulting in a Ricco case being filed against the real estate mogul.
