I Know Why I Can't Find Pecan Pie

Updated on October 5, 2013

Introduction

Why can't I find any pecan pie during certain parts of the year? That's the million dollar question. The question I have been hoping to answer for centuries now. The mystery of life and bane of my research.

Any pecan pie recipe will make me smile until my face splits. I love pecan pie like a vulture loves carcass.

It seems the summer months are the worst for pecan pie. During this time, I find it easier to find a comfortable spot on a glacier than a pecan pie at the store.

The Investigation

Fed up with my pecan pie woes, I went to the local supermarket and noted all of the popular store-bought pre-made pies. Then I came home and emailed two of these pie companies, Mrs. Smiths and Marie Callender's.

Mrs. Smiths must have been feeding her face as she read her email. They responded but could not answer my question beyond, "At this time we do not keep a list of products each store carries....." (eh, what?), ".....however it is up to each individual store whether or not to carry the individual product."

Eh, yeah. That answer cleared things up.

C'mon Mrs. Smiths! I'm freakin' hungry here :-).

Marie Callender's got back to me within a couple days. The smarter company I presume. Marie Callender's answer was logical and succinct. It turns out that many stores consider pecan pie a seasonal pie. These stores only buy during certain times of the year.

Marie Callender's added that the store I go to, Genuardi's, does not start selling pecan pies until mid-October. The month I wrote this article was July. When October gets here, I'm going to bury my head in one of those pies.

They also sent me a couple of pie coupons. Gotta love it.

Yes, I get excited over trivial things, like food :-)

Make Pecan Pie Easy

When the store shelves are empty and pecan pie can not be found, do not fret. You can make pecan pie really easy. Super easy actually. I'm no chef either so do not think for a minute I am some sort of wiz at making pastries and pies in the kitchen. I am a master toast maker as long as you put the butter on for me.

Seriously, Pecan pie is a breeze to whip up at homeIt took no time to make at all. I was shocked at how simple it was and also pretty cheap to make as well
