Maximizing Singlehood

Is it a thorn in the flesh or a golden privilege in life ?
In our society today , there is a considerable number of singles, be it separated or those who have never been married. Their number continue to increase as years go by. Many singles consider their plight as thorn in the flesh , a curse rather than a blessing. They struggle in great deal, surf the world wide web, signing up for the romance and dating websites, thinking that somehow they will be able to find a match. They lost great deal of time in searching for Mr. or Miss Right. This is so prevalent even among the Christian circles. Many because of the intensity of the struggles compromise God's standard and marry any fellow who hangs on. They will pay any price just to be out of the single club.
There is one exceptional single who has considered his singlehood as a golden privilege, for he was able to maximize his singlehood to the fullest by being a great help in the Lord's ministry for the greater glory of God. I am speaking of the man no other than Brother Jun Tabac, President of HELP (His Equippers for Life Purposes) a Christian parachurch organization designed to help others discover and accomplish God's purposes for their lives. At 48, Brother Jun Tabec is very much single and says he is not seeking for a wife for himself quoting II Corinthians 7:27:
" Are you loosed from a wife ? Do not seek a wife ."
According to him, if God will give him a wife , he will accept it and he will not forbid marriage. He already entrusted those matters to God's hands. According to him it is up to God's will whether he will be given a wife or not. He is willing to accept whatever God reserved for him, whether the gift of marriage or the gift of celibacy. Whatever the situation is, as long as he is serving the Lord, he is happy.
Brother Jun Tabac is one fellow who was able to maximize his singlehood for God's glory. He has been in the full time Christian ministry for the past 22 years. The first fifteen years were given to the various ministries of Campus Crusade for Christ and the last seven years were given for the ministries of His Equippers for Life Purposes. Prior to his career in the fulltime ministries,he worked as project inspector of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System for four years. He finished BS Civil Engineering from the University of the Philippines - Diliman way back 1981.
Brother Jun Tabac first heard the gospel during 1979 when he was in his fourth year college in UP through a film showing entitled "Left Behind" conducted by the Campus Crusade for Christ Ministry. At his conversion, the burden for the lost in his heart became very great that at that time he was willing to give his life to full time Christian ministry.
After four years of working at MWSS, Brother Jun Tabac gave his life to fulltime Christian ministry. He joined Campus Crusade for Christ in 1985. In this ministry, he was able to minister to the students of University of the East. Then the following year, 1986 he joined the Professional Ministry of Campus Crusades for Christ. The Professional Ministry of CCC is designed to reach out for the young professionals in the marketplace. He became the director of Manila Professionals Ministry. Under his ledership the ministry was able to reach out for scores of young professionals who have never been led to the church. In this ministry, they organized fellowships and accountability groups designed to mold the character and mindset of the professionals towards christcenteredness and godliness.
In December, 1989, Brother Jun joined the Jesus Film Ministry of CCC.This ministry is designed to bring the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to every Filipino community by conducting a film showing on the life of JesusChrist. With this ministry, Brother Jun's team was able to bring the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to hundreds of communities all over the Philippines.
Burdened with the desire to train churches towards achieving God's purpose for their church , Brother Jun joined the Church Resource Ministry of CCC in May,1997. This ministry is designed to train church leaders and church members accomplish God's purposes for their lives. They conducted seminars on "Purpose Driven Church " by Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Baptist Church.
In July, 2000, after fifteen years of productive ministries, Jun resigned from Campus Crusade for Christ. Set out to further fulfill God's purposes for his life he established a new Christian organization know as HELP which stands for His Equippers for Life Purposes . It was registered under Securities and Exchange Commission on November 28, 2000. HELP is a parachurch Christian organization designed to help church leaders and church members discover and fulfill God's purposes for their lives. The ministry envision to multiply "houses of prayers" for all nations , evangelization of all men, and godly transformations of societies.
In order to achieve these visions, they produce training materials regarding church growth. They also train church leaders, church members, parachurch leaders and para church members using these materials. Through the HELP ministries they were able to cause impact to the lives of hundreds of Filipinos nationwide.
For Brother Jun Tabac, singlehood is truly a great privilege. While for many, it is a thorn in the flesh, it could be maximized for God's greater glory. Just like Brother Jun Tabac, instead of struggling we should learn to commit our single life to the hands of the Lord. We should try to discover God's purpose for our singlehood . It could be used for something worthwhile, something that will reap rewards for eternity. Singehood is indeed maximized if it spent for the Kingdom of GOD through reaching out to others who are straying away from God.
If you are still single, you too can maximize your singlehood by engaging in endeavors that will bring impact and touch the lives of many people.
