American Pit Bull Terriers
The American Pit Bull Terrier is one of the best well- rounded dogs that I've ever encountered or read about, or for that matter heard person stories about. These dogs are wonderful dogs with a bad reputation.
But, the APBT is not the dog for everyone. People who are ready for stubborn, ill- willed, hard- headed, mischievous dogs, may be the ones who are prepared for an American Pit Bull. People who are willing to put in hours of training and socializing, are good candidates. Otherwise, I suggest you find a different breed, or not get a dog at all.
But, like any other pet, it's great to do your research. Yes, a dog requires to be fed daily, given fresh water, exercised, socialized, and trained, but what about the breed characteristics? Do you really know what you're getting into before you bring home a particular breed or mix of a particular breed?
Some breeds can be rather dominant and stubborn, and one of these breeds is the American Pit Bull Terrier. Can you handle a dog that is made of strength and power?
Below, you'll find some of my favorite books about the American Pit Bull Terrier. Even if you think you know everything about this dog breed, I'm sure you'll still learn something from these books. I know I did.
Caring for Pit Bulls
The American Pit Bull Terrier is a different breed of dog. It's one of the most loving, caring, loyal, and pleasing dog breeds that I've ever met.
But, even with all of those great qualities, the breed is feared, shamed, and hated.
The myths that surround this breed tend to be based on something far from truths. But, anyway, when thinking about getting an American Pit Bull Terrier, you want to get a book.
Although, books about dog breeds, won't help your experience or any of the experiences that you will encounter with a dog, any dog breed, books are a great way to get you ready and prepared for dealing with a dog.
My favorite APBT dog book, is the American Pit Bull Terrier Handbook, by Barren's Pet handbooks. Even with hands on experience, and plenty of dog experience, this book opened my eyes from an unbiased point of view.
Training a Pit Bull
American Pit Bull Terriers need loads of constant training and socializing. In reality, it's the key to living happily with your APBT.
It's the key to your neighbors living happy with living next to an American Pit Bull. Because, who doesn't know at least one person that is uneasy around Pit Bulls?
I can name a handful off the top of my head.
So, when you train your APBT properly, everyone who is in contact with your dog will know that she's nothing to fear. That she's nothing more than a a big cuddle bug, who would lick you to death before she would maul you.
Training your APBT is your best bet at a successful relationship with your Pit Bull.
Pit Bull Myths and Misunderstandings
The American Pit Bull Terrier is bar far the most misunderstood dog breed out there today.
I'm not going to get into any arguments about opinions about the breed, but I will say that the myths are out there and they are false.
Most people do not understand the the truths behind the myths, so by educating yourself about your dog or future dog, you can help educate others who in their heart of hearts believe that the American Pit Bull Terrier is a born baby- killer.
- Good Pit Bulls
Despite their reputation, the Pit Bull breed is one of the best dogs. When under the right care and training, they can be the ideal pet for families.
