How much does Pacquiao make from the fight?

Former three-division champion Sugar Shane Mosley will take on WBO welterweight champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao on May 7, 2011 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.

The fight will be at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds.

Filipino Manny Pacquiao aka “Pacman” vs Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto fight last November 14, 2009 was the biggest boxing show of the year because it sold 1.25 million HBO pay-per-view buys. It surpassed the 1.05 million sold by Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Juan Manuel Marquez fight last September. The television grossed $70 millions. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum said that Pacquiao will make some $22 million dollars for his 12^th round stoppage of Cotto, while Cotto will make around $12 millions. That’s a lot of money. The Pacquiao-Cotto fight also did well at the live box office with tickets sold for $8.84 million at the MGM Grand hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

There is a possible fight next year between Pacquiao and Mayweather. This could be the richest fight ever in sport. Their promoters (Bob Arum for Pacquiao and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions for Mayweather) have already planned to begin negotiations soon for the fight which might take place in May 2010. It may be held again at Las Vegas or it might be at Dallas Cowboys’ new stadium or even at Yankee Stadium.


Everyone is looking forward to that big boxing event. This might be Manny Pacquiao's last fight before he retires and engages in politics.
