Having a Baby | Stage II of Gestation | Weeks 0 to 13 | Month 3 is Risky
In my previous article, I explained about stage I of gestation – sperm approaching egg and in this article, I will continue with the first quarter of pregnancy which consists of weeks 0 to 13 commonly known as months 1 to 3. In this period, you will start feeling some internal changes. The external changes will come after that. Early hormonal changes will cause you to feel very sleepy and tired all day long. It is very likely that many women feel dizziness and nausea or vomiting. You will also start craving for certain foods and experience some loss of appetite. You may have indigestion or heartburn. Some women gain weight at this time and some lose a few kilos. It depends from a person to person. You can also feel very constipated. Your mammary glands will enlarge and breasts will start growing big. This can also hurt a little to some women. The areola which is the area around the nipple will darken in color and get enlarged. Also your uterus will start growing requiring you to urinate more often than normal. I know there is a lot of pain and patience involved in having a baby but then also when the baby will come in your hands, you will feel the never ever experienced joy and excitement and your pains will be gone. I am saying that because I have experienced this joy two and a half months back when the birth of my daughter took place. Read on…
Changes occurring inside your body - Month by Month
Month 1: During the first month of your pregnancy, your baby will begin to form spinal cord and will differentiate his head. Towards the end of month 1, your baby’s heart starts beating.
Month 2: Begins the process to form facial features and formation of extremities.
Month 3: In this month, your baby will grow his/her legs and arms and may be it is possible to distinguish their sex at this time. The baby will start moving his/her arms and legs.
Risk of Natural Miscarriage or Abortion - Month 3 is Risky
In the period of gestation when the development period reaches third month, the odds of a natural abortion are much higher than in other stages of pregnancy; therefore, you need to be very cautious for yourself and your baby. Also, tell your hubby about this in advance so that he can take more care of yourself in this crucial month of pregnancy. Though it is highly advised to stop consuming alcohol, drugs, and other hard medicines before getting pregnant, if you had been doing these previously, you need to consult with your doctor and tell him/her everything about your previous alcohol or drug abuse and other specific factors. It is highly recommended to take medication by doctor’s prescription only and do not take any over-the-counter prescription medications that you have been taking previously as this can be deteriorating for your baby. If you need any type of medication, ask your doctor first as he/she is the best guide which medication you can take and which you cannot take.Month 3 - My personal Experience
When my wife was pregnant and it was month 3, I used to take a lot of care of my wife and always tried to devote as much time as possible for her because of reasons mentioned above. We were so much worried about month 3 that we stopped watching movies in the theater due to the loud noise that we feared can hurt our baby’s hearing capacity, but many of our friends did not do that and they have a normal and healthy baby. I think we did this because it is our first baby and we did not knew many things beforehand. I think we will not worry too much we will have our second baby.
So above was something about the first quarter of pregnancy or stage II of gestation. In my next hub, I will share some info on second quarter of pregnancy: Weeks 14 to 27 (Months 4 to 6). Bye bye for now.
