Camping Tips - Sleeping

Camping tip, Camping tips, Tips for camping, Sleeping when Camping Tips

Camping tip number one is about staying warm. My best camping tip is to ensure you will be warm at night while you sleep. With a good sleeping mat you can insulate your body against the cold of the ground. A sleeping mat can keep you warmer then an additional blanket would because it prevents the loss of heat in the first instance.

The sleeping mat I have, use and swear by is a therm-a-rest mattress. I had the chance to compare the therm-a-rest against a inflatable air mattress. The air mattress was tricky to inflate with no power to operate the air pump and was deflated enough in the morning that my shoulder and hip where touching the cold ground. The therm-a-rest was like sleeping on a very firm mattress. We were sleeping on very bumpy ground with lots of tree roots and even tho the therm-a-rest is thin I couldn't feel them.

I strongly recommend that you check out the therm-a-rest mattresses because of their comfort and ability to insulate you against the cold ground. A good nights sleep while camping can make all the difference in a camping holiday.

My next camping tip is a bit of an odd one. I don't even think that this tip would have occurred to me before my last camping trip. I suggest that if you are camping with kids you consider a camping toilet.

On the last camping trip we ran into a little trouble. My niece managed to whack her foot pretty darned hard. She was left unable to walk or put much weight on it. She is only just old enough that carrying her to the toilets wasn't really possible. At one point I was carrying her a few feet, we would stop, then carry on (not fun I can tell you).

My brother in law brought up a camping toilet for us to use and it made life a lot easier with the kids. It got kinda gross but in a pinch it can be a sanity saver! It sure was welcome when my niece injured her foot and couldn't walk.

Camping Tips - Tents

A good tent is easily the most important thing to think about. The factors to consider are, the ease of assembly, the warmth it will capture as you sleep and the space it offers. The more space your tent has, the harder it will be to warm up over night as you sleep. We have a small tent and a cheep pop up tent for storage. Our tent gets really warm overnight and is actually designed for camping in both hot summers and cold freezing winters. On the other hand we cannot stand up in it nor do we have much storage room.

The pop up tent comes in really handy because we can store stuff in it within minutes of getting to the campsite, great if its raining! Then we can work on getting the 'proper' tent up and start brining in the sleeping gear and basic clothing.

The technology behind these pop up tents is simply amazing. If I did not have the tent I do, or I wanted a cheaper easier tent for say camping at a music festival this type of tent would be perfect! The one we have is so light weight and easy to use. I will include a video of a pop up tent being put up and folded back away. It is dead easy!

Camping Tips for Cooking

Cooking while camping can involve more then simple barbecue type meals. Just about any pre-made meals bought from the store can simply be heated up for a good hearty meal. This works well for vegetarians who don't want BBQ hamburger type meals.

Pasta is actually a very easy meal to make when camping. Simply boil water with your pasta noodles until they are soft (like you would do at home really). Heat your pasta sauce in another pot, mix the cooked noodles into the sauce and either eat as is or cook the two together for a few minutes (the sauce flavors will blend into the noodles more this way).

Cooking while camping can actually be lots of fun. Be adventurous and experiment with cooking some of your favorite dishes. If you have good cooking gear you can enjoy a great outdoor kitchen on your camp site!
