Key For Cash: A Work-From-Home Data Entry Job Review

If you are like most people I know, the prospect of making a little extra cash now and then outside of your "real" job sounds wonderful. Most of the time, though, making extra dough means having to leave the house again right after you've returned from a hard day's work. Sure, you've heard of online work-from-home gigs, but aren't they generally scams? When I came across Key For Cash a few weeks ago, I decided to find out.

So what is Key For Cash?

When people joke about working for peanuts, I think they might actually be referring to Key For Cash. Type letters and numbers that are displayed on the screen and get paid a whopping $0.30 per 1,000 keystrokes.

The application process is basic: Submit your personal information, including your SSN #, and then continue on to the evaluation test. If you are competent in the least at typing what you see on your screen, passing the test is easy. I received a 100% score, but I've read elsewhere of others being accepted to Key For Cash with less than that. I received my invitation to begin several days later, but your results may vary.

So, you're probably already pulling out your calculator to see if this is even worth considering. Let me save you some time. I've put in roughly sixteen hours over the past two weeks and made $59.74 to date. Yes folks, that is for 199,133 keystrokes (at an average of 42 WPM). I'm generally an 80 WPM sort of guy, but the work isn't always consistent and can often be difficult to decipher.

The question is: would you be willing to work for $3.70/hour? While the pay is obscenely low, I believe I will continue. The convenience of working from home however long I want, whenever I want is very appealing. My sweet spot is around the time that everyone else is down for the night (my former reading time). Yes, there can actually be work to do in the middle of the night! My dream is to bring in an extra $100-150 per month from this.

A major caveat, though. I finally received my check from Key For Cash ... almost one month later! While their website states that the processing period can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks, I've read in several places online to count on it taking 30 days every time you meet payout. If you can get into a groove where you make a minimum of $30 every week, you probably won't notice much of a delay once you receive your first check, but keep this in mind if you need cash sooner.
