Collecting Halloween Postcards

Halloween postcards used to be a favorite way to send out Halloween greetings to friends and families. Those popular types of Halloween greetings are now considered to be vintage Halloween postcards. Collecting these older Halloween postcards is an interesting hobby. You can't just walk into a store and buy some to send out. You have to learn the places you can find these collectible pieces. Flea markets, estate sales and Ebay are the best places to find old whimsical Halloween postcards that are memories of Halloween past.

Halloween postcards designed by Frances Brundage, Bernhardt Wall, Fred Lounsbury, Ellen Clapsaddle and Samuel Schmucker are some of the most favored by collectors. Some of the vintage artwork on old fashioned Halloween postcards have designs of jack-o-lanterns, witches, ghosts, black cats and various Halloween sayings. You can find them in all kinds of conditions but usually they have been through the mail so they have been used.

When you are collecting postcards the degree of wear and tear on the cards is important to look for. Bent edges or rips bring down the value of the cards. If you were able to find a Halloween card that was never used it would be a rare find indeed and be very valuable. However it is interesting to see all the different Halloween scenes that are pictured on the old vintage cards. The humor and art on old Halloween postcards are truly unique.

Condition is more important if you are collecting for the value of the cards. If you collect cards for sentimental value or as a hobby, you may just concentrate on what you enjoy.
