Soccer, or as its more commonly know to the world outside of the U.S., football, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players using a spherical ball known as a soccer ball. It is played by millions of people in over 200 countries and is widely considered to be the most popular sport in the world.

The basic equipment players are required to wear includes a shirt, shorts, socks, shoes and shin guards. A game is officiated by a referee, who enforces the rules, known as the "Laws of the Game."

Goalkeepers are the only players allowed to use their hands or arms to propel the ball while all other players usually use their feet to kick the ball and move the ball into position. The head or torso can also be used to intercept a ball and/or propel it in a new direction. And of course, the team that scores the most goals by the end of the match wins. Depending on format, ties are handled by going into extra time and/or a penalty shootout or declaring the game a draw.
