Best Leopard Gecko Care Books
Leopard Geckos
Before you get a new pet, it's best to do all the research that you can do. If you're bringing home a new pet, you need to make sure that you can provide the best environment for any animal before you're in too deep.
I'm the type of person who likes to do my share of internet research, but I like to have a good reference book on hand for any emergencies. And, maybe I'm crazy, but I like to have at least two. Where one book may lack, another may flourish.
I've included some of my favorite leopard gecko books for you to consider.
The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos
Ok, so this is probably my favorite leopard gecko reference guide. This book was written by Philippe de Vosjoli, Ron Tremper, and Roger Klingenberg, all of which are wonderful in their fields. I mean, take Ron Tremper, for instance, is a world renowned leopard gecko breeder.
This leopard gecko book is by far the best in breeding, rearing, and genetics about leopard geckos.
The rest of the book, is still packed with great information about natural enclosures, healthcare, and diet, but it does seem that in regards to the in- depth information in the breeding section, the rest of the book appears sparse of details.
There aren't as many photos as I would like in a reference guide, but the examples of leopard gecko morphs that were pictured, are magnificent.
Whether you are thinking about breeding your leopard gecko or whether you just want a really good leopard gecko reference, I think that this one is one to have on hand.
Leopard Geckos (Complete Herp Care)
This particular reference book is just one book in a relatively new series. Although, new, it doesn't necessarily mean inexperienced or incomplete.
I'm actually quite surprised by this book series. The leopard gecko care guide is packed with full- color photos that make reading more interesting.
The guide has a great start to learning about caring for leopard geckos. You'll find background, natural information about the leopard gecko, as well as, care and husbandry information that is essential to keeping a leopard gecko happy and healthy in captivity.
The health care section of the book, is bare basics, but helpful if you don't have another reference source.
The strongest element in this particular reference book is the pictures. The pictures are vibrant and vivid. If anything else, the photos will help keep your entranced in reading about the leopard gecko.
The Leopard Gecko: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet
This reference book, provides you information from top to bottom, ranging from how to choose the right gecko all the way to breeding and raising your own hatchlings. You'll learn about the leopard gecko in a fun and interesting way. Make your experience an experience an exciting one. Explore proper husbandry for the leopard gecko, diet, and health care. You'll find full- color photos that will make the reading more enjoyable.
The main thing that I found frustrating with the book is that you have to hunt for the leopard gecko information. The first 24 pages are geared to natural habitats and information about other gecko species.
Some people find that the book is an ok reference in general terms, and that the book lacks more detailed information.
This is true, yes, but I've found the book helpful when looking up general health care information. Although, the health care section could use a little more updating, it is still a good starter source.
