I Think My Boxer Dogs Saved My Life

Updated on November 15, 2014

Dark Nights

The days were getting darker much earlier than usual. We were getting into December so it was only to be expected.

I was working in the antique centre in the middle of town, I was busy on the top floor getting the papers ready for tomorrow. Tomorrow was a very important day ,everything had to be just right as it was our monthly 'collectors auction'.

My dogs were sleeping on the ground floor, three of them, and all were shattered after their day at the beach with Paul. He had come up to the top of the three story building to give me the cafe keys(ground floor) and to say he would be back as soon as possible.

Confronted

I was in the very top attic area where the old antique post cards were stored. As I carried a large box down the spiral stair case I heard a whispering conversation. I knew it wasn't Paul as he always shouted out ,to let me know he was back ,to save coming up the three flights of stairs.

I was suddenly confronted by three men. I didn't know them,I asked them what they wanted, hoping they were dealers and wanted information about the collectors fair. They ignored me completely and just walked around all the tables taking note of the items on display. I was nervous by now and wondered what was the best thing to do.

I wished the dogs were with me ! That was when I noticed the black haired man had a large rolled up newspaper and there seemed to be something in it.

Newspaper

I asked what was in the rolled up newspaper. ' Better for you not to know' the man replied.

His friends were grinning and one said 'let her see what you have' but the one with the paper just moved away from me. I was wishing I was dreaming and was far away from these people.

They were now picking items up and scoffing at me ,I didn't really know what to do!

Suddenly the door burst open and three masses of fury each had a man pinned up by the wall. That was when the rolled up newspaper fell to the floor with a clatter and a long thin knife was lying there. Next to the knife were two guns.

Policemen

It was the day after our collectors auction which had been a tremendous success. We were in the cafe and we were discussing with the police , the incident when the three men had threatened me.

They were highly amused at the way the men had run off ,terrified by our three dogs. Bella was the leader, she was a police trained dog and they recognised that she was !

They caught the men a few days later and recovered lots of our stolen property from their car.

I hadn't realised they had taken so much from my tables until the policman handed me my gold Rolex watch.
