Little Obama's Statue

Updated on December 21, 2009

Statue of U.S. President Barack Obama when he was a child has been inaugurated. The bronze statues of Barack Obama stands in Menteng garden, Jakarta (the capital city of Indonesia). This statue was made as a memory of his childhood when Obama went to school in Jakarta. These statues represent a dream, the spirit of the child and friendship between two countries, Indonesia and U.S. This statue inspired children in Indonesia. Because in the future they can be anything, even become a president. And this is to appreciate president of Barack Obama when he was 10-year-old studied at Besuki Elementary School, Menteng, Jakarta. With nickname Barry. Obama statue spent around $10,000. Another reason why this statue was made to give motivation to young people, and an inspiration to young people, because this character is also live in Menteng when he was child.

The statue was reconstructed from images when Obama was 10 years old. He looks smiling. Little Obama is wearing T-shirts, shorts and sneakers. On his chest pinned a nobel peace medal. At the bottom of the monument where the statue stood engraved inscription: The future belongs to those who believe in the power of their dream. The left hand of Obama statue raised to the top with a butterfly perched on a thumb. This statue has high 110 cm and weight 30 kg.

On the other side there is also written: Little Barry played with his mother, Ann, in this Menteng area. He grew up to be President of the United States and 44 Nobel Peace Prize recipient.

The statue was given the name "Barry Dream Statue". Barry is a nickname of Obama when he was live in Menteng. This statue was designed Leo Angelo. Then the statue was made Edi Chaniago.

The development of this statue was initiated by the institution "Friends of Obama" institution.

Obama himself has heard about this statue. he was proud and did not object with the clothing worn in this statue,

Once established, many people around Menteng area seen enthusiastic take pictures with the Statue of Obama's background. There are many student and teacher of Menteng 01 Elementary school also visited this statue.

Although there are pros and cons between the people of Indonesia, as a teacher I only take the positive side. I hope my student can be a president like Barack Obama.
