Michael Fox (Moxie Trader)

I hail from the inter-mountain West. Some folks refer to the region as the crossroads of the West.

My professional background is in the banking industry (credit card banking), wherein I’ve devoted twenty-some-odd years to learning the craft of that trade.

During my career, I’ve worked through various disciplines: phone shop, phone shop team leader, accountant, data analyst, and Financial Analyst. My current position is manager of our Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team. We compile budgets, prepare forecasts, publish corporate monthly reporting, and seek to understand any reason for deviation from expectation.

Also, as implied by the analysis part of FP&A, we spend a great deal of time studying raw performance data – looking for correlations that we could use to better manage our business. We’ve compiled a collection of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that are representative of the health of our business. In trending these KPI, we are better able to anticipate significant changes and implement strategy to either exploit or compensate.

Spawned by my interest in the study of raw data, I’ve also found great enjoyment in the study of the stock market. I’ve actively traded the market since the late 1990’s. My bias is technical analysis, although with an informed eye toward underlying fundamentals.

Yet, aside from my vocation, my passion is clearly in the creative arts. I’m a photographer, writer, and guitarist. Over the years, these have been my hobbies; outlets for creative energy and keeper of my happy thoughts. I’ve photographed weddings, graduating seniors, families, couples, and little children. I’ve photographed products, businesses, and buildings. But my favorite subjects are nature themes. As an extension, I enjoy teaching others the craft (and art) of taking better pictures.

The technical and the artistic: an odd combination?

Maybe. But, hey, so is peppermint and brownies – but my wife pulls that off rather convincingly.

I appreciate your time and attention. I will do my best to repay your investment in me with quality content. Under the moniker of Moxie Trader, I will write a series of essays on the financial markets, banking, and personal finance. I will also explore the art and craft of trading today’s turbulent equity markets.
