Personal finance is a big deal, especially in todays economy. Being a smart spender, saver, and investor is going to be key if our family's are going to survive and thrive if things get really tough. Learning to be smart is relatively easy, but actually applying the knowledge can be surprisingly difficult.

Humans suffer from various psychological mechanisms that seem to fight against our ability to make wise, longterm decisions. The biggest I can think of is our need for comfort, especially short-term, here and now comfort.

Most debt that most American's have is the result of pursuing comfort in one form or another. There is the comfort of having a nice place to live. Or the comfort of having a nice car to drive. Or the comfort of having fast, easy, and fatty foods. Humans just love to be comfortable.

Comfort doesn't come cheap - especially when other want to feel comfortable too. But if you reject the pursuit of comfort, you will be well on your way to really enjoying life and really living. You might even get more comfort in the long term by rejecting a life that pursues comfort in the short term.

I try to write hubs that teach people how to break the cycle of comfort addiction and get quickly out of debt, make more money, and live a happier life.
