My Favorite Car, a 1965 Pontiac 2+2
2+2
I could sing to you of days,
When I was young and bold.
I could sing to you of days,
In my memory, wrapped in gold.
I could sing to you of days,
When I was wild and free,
And absolutely in love,
With a car that was given to me.
When my daughter, Missy was just six months old, my late husband, H., gave me a car for our sixth wedding anniversary on February 14th, 1975. The car was ten years old at the time and not as "mint" as the one in this picture but it needed a little work (he was a "shade tree" mechanic). He worked on the car until he had it running like a top. My car was solid black and was the fastest car I had ever owned in my own life. The 1965 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 was a special edition car. Pontiac only made a limited number of them in 1965, 1966 and 1967. It had a 421cc engine, dual traction rear end, and a shiny chrome Holley four-barrel carburetor. It was a fantastic car that could really move but could also do fine as a family car which I needed at the time because I had my two oldest children then. Mike was four and Missy was a baby. There were moments though when I was alone and I could enjoy this car thoroughly. I kept it for two or three years until it finally gave up the ghost. H. had paid $200 and put a little work in it. Since then and before then, I have had several cars, but my 2+2 will forever be my favorite car!
