The Mazda Sentia 1991 - 1999
The Mazda Sentia
The Mazda Sentia is a luxury car that was sold only in Japan in the 1990s. It replaced the Mazda Luce in 1991 and was produced in two generations before retiring in 1999. When the car was first developed it was created to take over as the flagship formal-use vehicle by Mazda, in Japan chauffeur-driven transport is quite common for executives and other white collar workers. However, the car was geared to be affordable for private owners as well.
Inspiration
The car was inspired by the Jaguar, with a low profile and the use of interior space for styling rather than offering more passenger room. The engine in the Sentia was a V6, and it set behind the front axle, giving it what is considered to be a “front midship” layout. The Sentia was updated in 1995 to use the HE platform. This redesign of the car was the last larger rear wheel drive sedan that was created by Mazda.
