Why should you like your work? Top five reasons!

Updated on October 10, 2014

Most of you do not like your work. You treat it as your livelihood- a profession that provides you money for your survival. Why are you not passionate about your work? Work needs lots of knowledge and your brain should work to its optimum best for your success in your job.

But you have other family and relationship problems which sap your energy. You are demoralized when the management criticizes your work. You feel frustrated when your colleagues get more approval than you. You are dead tired from long distant commuting.

Such outside factors can drain your physical and mental strength. Your mind and body should work in unison for you to give your best to your work. But you feel gloomy at the temporary setbacks in your profession and feel you will not succeed.

Unless you like your work you cannot succeed!

One particular day I was not in a mood to write. I had other worries and my mental agony made me lethargic to write. But I tried to write in spite of my lack of mood. I took a deep breath and started typing my article. Since I was bored I was unable to concentrate but I continued.

When I read what I had written I could see that the contents and the flow of my article were mediocre and completely ordinary. Why was my writing bad on that day? It was because I was not in a mood to write and my dislike reflected in the common place article I wrote.

When you dislike your work you are one among the crowd.

If you want to stand out as a unique person you must like your profession.

‘I think a person who takes a job in order to live-that to say for money- has turned himself into a slave’ – Joseph Campbell

Unless you like your job you feel tensed when you start for work. You feel overwhelmed by the work load. It is no use wanting to be successful in your work without trying for it. When you want success you should work your way towards it.

Liking your work can be cultivated by you. It is a mindset. Passion for your profession makes you improve your knowledge. When you feel comfortable with your work, it reflects in your family life also. But when you do not like your job, you wake up each day with stress about the work ahead and end the day with worries about another tense day in your workplace.

What are the ways to like your work?

1. You should be confident!

Confidence is the number one ingredient to be successful. When you are confident about your ability you need not fear your boss. Your assertiveness makes you look confident and behave confidently. Your voice becomes firm and energetic.

Your confidence instills incredible energy in you and your energy makes you do your work with proficiency. You assume an aura of assurance which makes your boss view you with respect. He now thinks twice before criticizing you as he does not want to lose a good employee.

2. Develop your competence

When you like your job, you want to prove your competence. Your mind keeps analyzing ways to improve your work. But when you dislike your job, you do your work monotonously and boringly. You never have the mindset to show your proficiency.

But suppose you like your job, you become a different person. You are ready to improvise and there is proficiency in your work. You gear yourself up to prove your capacity. You know that there is room for more improvement from you. You are eager to do your work with a fresh and curious mindset which takes you up the ladder of success.

3. Have good relationship with your family

Are you wondering what good family life has got to with your work? However much you like your work, you feel content only when you have a happy family life. Good family life and liking your job is inter-linked.

If you do not like your job, it reflects in your family life also. You take your work tension home and argue and fight with your spouse for no valid reasons.

But when you spend quality time with your family you feel relaxed. You give your best and enjoy your time in your work place. You look forward of go home to spend happy time with your family. Can you see how much you need good family life for your comfort in your workplace?

4. You must realize your talent

Why do you want to be mediocre in your work by disliking it? Start liking your job to give your optimum best! When your work is optimum you unearth many talents within you which you never realized existed. When you are eager and enthusiastic it makes you more productive.

When you begin liking your job you co-exist in peace with your colleagues. You work with dedication and sincerity and your time in your work place is not oppressive and suppressive as it used to be when you did not like your work.

5. You evolve into a new and more mature person

Work changes your character and the way you interact with others. When you dislike your work you feel frustrated and depressed and it reflects in your face. But, when you like your work your whole demeanor changes for the better.

You are more concentrated on grooming yourself. When you are well groomed you feel good. When you feel good your interaction becomes assertive. When you are assertive success is all yours.

Your work is a challenge which you should take up gallantly. You should train your mind to like whatever you are doing. It is unbelieving how your mind does whatever you command it to do. You should command your mind for professionalism. You should command knowledge and proficiency. You should train your mind to like your job. It does!
