How to Be Successful and Be Happy on Hubpages

Success sound so good but is not often easy to come by without perseverance. And being happy is a choice, but here in hubpages, there are rules that must be adhered to in order to be fully successful and happy while doing what you knows how to do best which is writing and sharing information.

My Experience

Writing is one of my hobbies and when I write, I write for fun and that was before I joined HP four years ago. Meanwhile, I was a fresher in the University then and there was this novel which I have been writing almost forever. Publishing a book was not really in my agenda. One day, I just printed it out and give it to my English lecturer, I was like; sir, could you please take a look at this book and give me your opinion? Thank goodness, he took it from me and glanced at. Just by weighing the number of pages I wrote, he said; you must be a writer to have written this book. And I said thank you sir, as I took it as a compliment, he then said ‘you write like a preacher, you have to join the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), to be able to connect with other authors who can also motivate you and as well help you to improve’. Initially, I was disappointed at his choice of words, but not that I wasn’t happy that he referred to me as a preacher because I am as a matter fact, but I was just expecting too much like ‘hey I will help you get it published’, which he never did.

Although, my stay under the umbrella of hubpages, I have learnt that there is no easy way for any writer to breakthrough. The experience is always the same, you cannot be accepted at the early stage, you would be discouraged at some points but you have to go extra mile to prove the publishing agent that rejected your work wrong by either self-publishing or by using one of the numerous trusted online publishing sites. And after conquering the rejection mood, I started looking for online publishing site but I did not trust any of them then.

I keep on searching for sites where I can at least express myself through writing and publishing. I then stumbled upon HP site where I was informed that I can share my educative information and ideas to the public free and as well earn money by doing that, I was very happy that I have found where my ideas would be accepted and appreciated hence the journey began.

Be Passionate: The first step here is that, you must be enthusiastic about writing or at least giving out educative information and ideas. Your passion about writing would be a motivating factor for you.

Quality Hub: Write quality hub or article that you are sure would benefit your readers. The best way to start is by reading through learning center thoroughly before proceeding to publish any of your articles because it will guide you through all you need to know about do’s or don’ts of any content which you intend to publish on hubpages very, very important.

Being Aware of Boot Camp: Be aware that there is what is called boot camp so that you won't discourage from the start. Boot camp is simply a period whereby your hub would not be published until you write at least three hubs which the contents meet the requirement of HP guidelines. Immediately you pass that stage, any quality hub you write would be published after undergoing normal assessment process, which HP management would carry out to make sure that the information you are given out is of good quality. As soon as it passes through this scrutinizing process, it would be published and it will be shown on google search engine.

Write Regularly: Write as many quality hubs as possible and continue writing to establish yourself. Since I joined HP as a result of the nature of my work, I have fewer times to write but thank goodness, my present work gives me enough time to write at least once in awhile.

Edit your work: Some of my hubs which were not featured before became featured after I did some editing and correction on them. Once in awhile, look at some of your hubs which are not doing well in terms of views and go through it again, you might see some misspelling, wrong sentences etc. after correcting those errors, it might be featured. In addition, there are an opportunity to share it after editing on hubpage, facebook, twitter, google plus, pinterest etc. and please take note; you must share your hub with caution as too much sharing may not go down well with HP, hubpages does not encourage frequent sharing of your hubs.

Don’t be intimidated. There are a whole lots of wonderful writers in HP, when I mean wonderful, I mean great and renounced authors of bestselling books. Nonetheless do not be intimidated; beside you are not here because you are a perfect writer, and of course everybody is here to learn in one way or the other. Therefore, do your own thing and believe me, you will improve with time, you just have to be consistent in writing, don’t give up. Instead of being intimidated, learn from them. There are various hubs on how to improve in your writing skills and how to construct and a wonderful book or articles. Everything you need to improve is here in hubpages, be open minded and you would learn.

Read Other People's hubs: It is very important to read written by other authors and well remember to comment as many times as possible to encourage them, you can as well engage them in discussion. By doing that, they would also reciprocate by reading and commenting on yours too. Every serious Huber on HP checks his or her hubs frequently to know how the hub is doing. It is necessary that as you are checking your hubs that you check others too and that is how it goes.

Follow people: by following your fellow Hubers that you like their work, it would enable you to know when they publish a new hub as well build a followership. But in hubpages you don’t just follow all of them in one day; you should do it with conscious and gradually.

Join Hubpages Community: In addition to all the above, you need to join hubpages community and answer as many questions as possible and don't forget to ask your own questions too.

Hub Score: Don’t mind the hub score and Huber score because if you are so conscious of it, you would get discouraged at times thinking that your hubs are trash or something. The hub scores are there as an indication to show viewership of a particular hub.

Lastly but not the least, don’t be in a haste to make millions in few days. Though it is possible depending on the level of your commitment in writing quality hubs which attracts traffic.

For the past four years I joined this community, I started earning six months ago; precisely, January 2015. Surprised? You might be but it’s true. Though my own case is quite different because after qualifying to earn on hubpages earning program, paypal has not gotten to my country then, which is the only means of payment in HP. Eventually, they came into my country between late 2013 and early 2014 after which I started earning gradually. And what got me through all those years is my passion for writing and that is my motivation despite not being paid I continued writing. Don’t focus on the monetary aspect of it, enjoy the experience of sharing your knowledge and ideas with people and see the monetary aspect as a bonus that way, you would be happy while you are here on hubpages and I wish you happiness as you hub, cheers.
