How to earn good money writing articles online

Updated on April 6, 2015

Writing online to make good money

If you are passionate about writing and you have considered writing online to make good money you will probably find yourself a bit disappointed because your efforts only pay you a few cents here and there. But before you give up on something that is your passion, something you are truly good at, understanding all the components of writing online to make good money will be the necessary boost you need.

Select the right keywords

Before you start writing an article you need to research your keywords. Which keyword relevant to your content will show good demand, fair supply and competition? In order to understand this part of selecting the right keywords or keyword phrases you will need to open up a keyword tool that helps you analyze demand, supply and competition. Google's analytical tool will work in the beginning. Nevertheless, if you are serious about selecting the right keywords or keyword phrases you might want to look around for better analytical tools such as wordtracker.

When selecting keywords you should stay away from single keywords. They are usually too general, forcing you to compete against too many other websites and blogs. Keyword phrases are more specific and provide the searcher with a more accurate result. Once you have found a keyword phrase relevant to what you are writing about, consider a few more keywords or phrases that are related to your main keyword phrase.

For best results have your keyword phrase or words present in your title, the first 90 characters of your introduction and a couple to a few more times in your article. Don't overdo it with your keywords. You can use alternative keywords pertaining to the topic as long as the reader still understands what your article is all about.

Write quality content

Now that you have chosen the best keywords and keyword phrases it is time to begin your article. You need a title that grabs the reader's attention and an introduction that will make them want to read your article to learn more about the specific topic. Don't go for the average titles and boring introduction. Take out a newspaper and read some of the headlines and introduction to get ideas or to stimulate your creativity. For best results consider implementing your keywords into your title as well as the introduction. Google uses two types of reading systems. One is an actual human reader, the other a robotic one. Both of them will determine the overall quality of your article. The more specific your keyword phrases relevant to your quality content the higher your listing. Your title and introduction including the location of your search engine listing will somehow determine how many people actually click on your article. Now, if you have a killer title and introduction on top of excellent search engine placement you can be certain that a whole lot of people will click on your article.

Links

If you are eager in writing articles online that get even more viewers then you might consider an alternative step. Link your present article to another article written by you. Let's say that you have written about the benefits of massage therapy and have mentioned a few massage modalities in your article such as Swedish Massage, Manual Lymph Drainage and Sports Massage. If you have written an article about each of these modalities you can link them to your new article. This will expand your reading audience automatically.

Social Networking

Social Networking is another avenue to get visitors to read your article. You can post your articles on facebook or twitter. Nevertheless, if you want to be viewed as a professional writer you might even want to consider to build a professional facebook site. This site will display your professional image and shouldn't be used to post personal photos or remarks. The settings of your page should also be slightly different so your site is viewed as a professional writer's site at all times. Accept friend requests from people that you think have an interest in your writing or share similar interests. Send out friend requests to other authors or serious professionals. Grow your professional websites with many quality articles establishing a wonderful portfolio visible to many professionals online.

Grow your writing portfolio

When you first start writing you won't make that much money unless you write for a publisher that pays you a monthly fee for producing a certain amount of articles. But for most people that choose to write for an online publication the starting income is very low and sometimes very discouraging. Keep writing quality content and your income will gradually increase. This also goes for those individuals who write to become noticed.

If you think that your writing needs serious improvement there are several ways to go about it. Read books and articles and write down certain sentences that grab your attention. Study writing styles that are appealing to you. Practice, practice and practice. The more you write the better you will get. You may even consider a creative writing class at a local college or an online institution.
