"My Sweetest Friend" ~ A Poem

I know, you, my sweetest friend, will understand every word and line written here.

“The dawn is not distant, nor is the night starless; love is eternal."

My sweetest friend,

Today, I send you those beautiful scents

You know the ones of which I speak . . .

My sweetest friend

The first, the sweet scent of a rose

To comfort you with that fragrance to mend

My sweetest friend,

The second, remembering

The one so simple and good

Just breathe it in, that signature Jean Nate

My sweetest friend,

The third, pine, that traditional scent

Oh, surely, must be heaven sent

My sweetest friend,

The fourth, lavender, to think of her

Reminding of days of comfort and peace, so relaxing

My sweetest friend,

Finally, it’s Springtime, go out to that branch

You know, that delicate one, the lilac

My sweetest friend,

I know you still feel arms of love around you

Holding you up and supporting you with pearls of wisdom

My sweetest friend

Go on and take that walk in your mind … to St Patrick’s and the pharmacy at Sandy Hill

Then maybe read that Bible story about “the naked man!”

While sitting in that small chair by the fireside

My sweetest friend,

From that box of musical treasures, listen to the lyrics you now hear

Go ahead and cry, cry . . . cry like a baby dear.

My sweetest friend,

Pull out those journals where words of love are written

As well as that special box of treasures, and read that one poem

My sweetest friend,

Loving memories of three angels, all who went in the month of May

Now, so many angels in heaven to see again one day!

“If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast." Psalm 139: 9-10

Now, my sweetest friend, rise early and watch the sun come up and you will see rays of the rising sun shooting across the heavens with the speed of light to reach the farthest bounds on the horizon, and even there, my sweetest friend, you will find Him, for He has gone before you, has preceded you, and you will find Him there as much as here.

I pray, my sweetest friend, the sounds of this music, some of which, "hillbilly music", bring you more solace than anything else.

I am in agreement with another, in that, you, my sweetest friend, are unselfish, compassionate, always dropping anything to make sure needs are taken care of . . . your generosity and compassion extend to anyone in need . . . and your merely 'listening' is a comfort to so many who need that 'someone' to listen.

That is what I love about you . . . my sweetest friend.
