Best globe for kids

Updated on November 13, 2015

A globe is a great Christmas or birthday gift for any inquisitive kid. They can use it to look for the location of places of which they learned in school, to find relatives or to see where places on TV really are. It is a fun way to learn about our planet's geography.

In this article we will review the best globes for kids, you should be able to find one that is a good fit for your family.

Traveler Globe

This is a 12 inch blue ocean globe from Replogle an established map maker.

This is a quality product, with some 3 dimensional features, vivid colors, clear markings, and a good price making it the best globe for kids, in my opinion. The smoke black plastic base and semi-meridian are scratch resistant which a must for kids.

Explorer Smart Globe

I'm not a big fan of electronic toys, but i do love this globe. It comes with an electric pen. You use the pen to point out a country or area, then the globe gives you some fun relevant facts about it. It's a bit like a talking atlas. The base has a world clock, volume control, headphone jack and an automatic shut-off function.

The globe lets up to 4 people play a game of Eureka, to see who can find the most countries, cities and continents in a set time as the globe calls them out randomly. It's so much fun, you won't even realize that you are learning.

Inflatable globe

I you are buying a globe for say a 4 year old, I wouldn't spring for the full globe. Instead get them this inflatable one. I know it looks like a beach ball, but the plastic is really much more durable. Also the print on the globe is large and clear.

The manufacturers have cleverly included a repair kit and an activity guide. This globe is the best solution for younger kids.

Premium globe from Replogle

This globe has a more durable construction making it a bit more expensive than the first globe we reviewed.

The globe shows raised relief mountains, major cities, ocean currents, states and color-coded countries. It also has a plastic time zone dial over the north pole, this lets you figure out what time it is in other countries. Unlike most globes, this one can be tilted so you can have a good look at the south pole.

World map

If the globes are a little pricey this world map is a good alternative. It's 50 x 32 inches, so a large, but not huge map.

It's done in a classical style, but it is completely up to date.
