If Your Outgo Exceeds Your Income, Your Upkeep Becomes Your Downfall

How do you spell Relief

By the way, the title of this hub comes from a famous old saying that is not original with me but is clever enough to be told to every new generation that comes along.

I am sure that some see last minute budget deals reached by congress and the president with relief. I for one am not so sure. I am not rushing out to sell my gold stock or the silver I bought as a hedge.

The reason I am not so sure that happy days are here again is that I see that the same kind of Euro socialism that destroyed the nation of Greece is in ascendency in the United States. And our socialists have the same inability or unwillingness to count that the Greek socialists do.

We call our socialist "democrats" of course and they want to give everything to every one and they tell the same lies that socialists tell everywhere. The rich will pay for all.

In the mean time the money is actually coming from the printing press and from borrowing.

The debt ceiling debacle is the chief indicator that we have spent too much. And still the democrats want to spend more.

We are doing far too many things that we shouldn't and we are not doing some of the things that we should.

For instance, since we have no interest in winning wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, we should not be in any of those places. Either we should be in it to win it or we should bring our boys back home.

We should not be wasting money suing Arizona over immigration.

Instead of paying Brazil to expand it's domestic energy industry, we should be allowing our own fossil fuel domestic energy industry to expand.

Before the latest budget negotiations I was all for the Tea Party. But now I am not so sure they are fit to govern though. They do not seem smart enough to take half a loaf and come back to the bakery the next day for the second half.

Yes I would like a balanced budget amendment but if I have even that socialist Harry Reid agreeing to no new taxes I am jumping on that one like a frog on a June bug.

The Tea Party may not be ready for prime time after all.

I love this line ~ "We are doing far too many things that we shouldn't and we are not doing some of the things that we should...." Wasting money on unnecessary things is really an overseen problem even in our individual homes, and failure to be vigilant at our expenses leads us to bankruptcy. Thanks for sharing this helpful hub! :)

No doubt there is a lot of waste in government and both parties contribute to it, which is why I am a non-partisan voter.

I voted that we should actually stick to a budget. Most of our elected officials seem more concerned with the next election ahead than actually accomplishing the people's work that needs attending. Printing more money when it is no longer backed by anything leads to inflation and disaster. Oh for the good old days of the gold standard! You are correct in that there is plenty of blame to go around.

Deborah and Peggy, let us all hope that politicians will stop using our tax money to buy our votes. If someone tried that on the street we would look at him like he was crazy and quickly walk away.

You're a brave person for speaking your mind. I agree with you 100%! I don't know where they find these officials who "lead" us. I vote. I advocate. I do what I can to keep them out of office. Yet, there they are, winning the votes that put them into office. And, now I have to live with their ill decisions. If I ran my household the way the government runs the country, I would not be here to tell about it.

Marlene, thanks for dropping by. I don't know if fiscal sanity can ever return but we should keep pulling for it.

Very nice hub, so well presented!

I liked the title and the pictures are amazing and quite unique.

At home, I try to stick to my budget and I am also frugal by nature. But savings and investment part is taken care of by my husband, since he is very calculative and has a lot of foresight.

The same rule should be followed, while making budget for the nation, I believe. The nation's budget should focus more for uplifting of the 'Have not's.'

Enjoyed reading your hub, voted up!

ChitrangadaSharan thank you for dropping by. I think you are correct in that for most people a budget is the key to financial victory!

The title is spot on. A budget if adhered to would be a wonderful thing.

I enjoyed this hub. Me and a friend have had conversations about this comparison of Greece, and the fall of civilization here in America, as we know it. The political deficit will never right itself with more spending.

BTW, I just replied to your comment in my Hub: Girls and ADHD I apologize for the delay...have been caught up in 'life'. Have a good week.

Good to see you Denise. I am glad you enjoyed the hub.

They say the band played on as the Titanic sank. That may be apocryphal. But it is still apropos I think.

Another thing to consider is how we and Europe are being so tolerant of ideologies and cultures that have made it clear that they don't like us and that they consider destroying us a mission from God.

The amount of money that is spent in this country on things that are only for "political gain" is truly mindboggling/frustrating/pathetic.

Angela, you are so right. I still think it's funny that our "representatives" use our tax money to buy our votes.
