Earth Saver Gadget
A curious contraption
During my latest visit to a local environmental education center, I was overwhelmed with information about recycling, reusing, reducing and living an environmentally conscious lifestyle.
It is true, there's simply too much information out there! The method of delivery becomes important. This is when the "Earth Saver" learning aid from Connecticut Valley Biological Supply company caught my attention. It is a colorful globe like disk that spins and tells you how to recycle different kinds of materials and how to be more environmentally friendly about their use.
The device had a nice "retro" feel to it. In the age of computers and flash animation, holding something like this in my hands felt different. The device was pretty fun though. It is dated as copyright 1992, way before the current environmental craze.
Another device that caught my eye was the "water wheel", which lists various ways to save water around your house. This device also tells you how much water this would save.
Overall, I think these are pretty cool and easy to use study aids for kids to learn about recycling. I'm certain a lot of this can be found online nowadays, but how many classrooms allow students to browse the internet during class hours?
