School is worth it.
It's the day before you go back to school/college/work after the Christmas break. Maybe if you are a full time worker you've been working over Christmas. Nevertheless, it's an official start back for you.
Wait... You've been having so much fun relaxing that you completely forgot about that five page essay due tomorrow! Oh crap! What am I going to do?? Thoughts are racing through your head such as 'what if I get detention for it being late' 'I'm going to have to stay up all night to finish this!' 'I have no motivation to even start, what's the point.' You can feel the panic curdling at your feet like a hideous green slime from which you cannot escape. It creeps up like fungus with each derogatory remark and thought you think about yourself, 'it will never get done at this rate I mean look at the time I'm practically doomed and I'll get rejected from uni or fired at work and I'll have to try and find a job that doesn't require any education which is going to be hard and I'll have no life worth living.'
The fungus reaches your stomach, somehow binding to your insides and twisting them to knots as you struggle to get free. Somehow this hideous green substance is whispering to you, absorbing into your body as you feel yourself losing the battle...whispering things...other distractions aswell as itself..."you can have a small nap first, take your mind off the stress for a while..." Slowly you give in. You unwillingly let the substance slither it's way up your feeble body, desperately clinging onto any sliver of motivation, or energy to break free. You feel your breathing slow down, your heart rate decreasing. It takes over your arms, relaxing them in a way you never wanted. You don't want to do anything. You feel sleepy. So...sleepy...Maybe just a few seconds of sleep... I'll wake up after that...
STOP. Don't close your eyes. You can do this. The yucky green stuff isn't real. BLINK. BLINK TWICE. WIGGLE YOUR NOSE. CLENCH YOUR TEETH.
You're slowly awakening from the spell of procrastination, the fungus is crumbling. Disintegrating from your skin, dissolving from your insides. You can breathe again, your mind is free. Only one thing rests there, and that is that you need to get this assignment done. NOW. You have the motivation, your body is free. Stand up, loosen your limbs, take a few deep breaths and say to yourself:
I can do this. I can do this. I am not stressed, I am focused.
Because you believe in yourself, your work gets done faster, and you get a good night's sleep.
