The Write Inspiration

Updated on April 12, 2009

Believe in Yourself

How to unlock motivation and achieve inspiration

For years I was the typical writer. I would sit around waiting for that one piece of brilliant inspiration to propel me to the next Pulitzer Prize winning piece. I don't quite know if it was supposed to be magical or mystical in nature. I just knew it was supposed to happen. Of course it never did.

Going where this man has gone before

The question became why hasn't this come to me? Just as with that inspiration I was waiting for, the answer wasn't about to materialize on it's own either. So, I sat around one day brainstorming on paper the why's and why nots. Why could I find the inspiration to create complete entertainment shows and characters to perform, but not find the inspiration to write? Why could I conjure up methods to create charitable events to raise money but not create pieces of literature to raise money for me? How was it I was able to direct thousands of others to the inspiration to that would help drive them forward day after day but not myself? The answer which changed my life was so simplistic it registered a hundred and two on the Homer Simpson “Duh” meter. The answer, it has always been right there in front of me. For others and other things I would just hand it over. For myself, I would just look past it. I was reaching beyond what was right in front of me. I was doing what I had found the people I helped stop doing. By going to where I would show others to go. I found my own inspiration. Better yet, it was the same place I went to for all things outside of my writing.

The key is the magic of you

The irony is I drew on the knowledge of how to create inspiration for all things not me. I was very much being the shoemaker who's kids had no shoes. Even better the housewife creates that wondrous meal but winds up eating the leftovers or burnt portions. We do this because we are taught doing for other is more noble. Many times when you live this way you fall into the trap of putting yourself outside of your own considerations. In a sense you become either blind or seemingly put up a “can't go there for me” wall. What we don't realize is those who experience how we guided them to inspiration think in of it terms of this couldn't have happened without the magic of you.

A mathematical inner source of inspiration

For myself it should have been a no-brainer. I do what I do for the sheer enjoyment. Nothing for me has ever equaled the satisfaction of writing. Doing what you enjoy plus the satisfaction of doing it equals inspiration. This applies in whether you want to achieve and accomplish in life. The principles of the formula are applicable to every single thing you want in life. If you take away one or the other you change the equation and wind up with a different answer every time. Many times the new answer will be the answer you don't want. A negative will cancel out inspiration every time.

How to work your magic

Norman Vincent Peale, the author of “The Power of Positive Thinking, said, “Change your thoughts and change your world.” He also said, “We tend to get we expect.” Now, you may be thinking this didn't work for me. Why, because I sat there expecting waiting for the positive of inspiration to come to me. The source of my problem was I combined that with the negative thoughts of “I can't find the inspiration.” Mathematically, when you combine a negative with a positive you wind up with less than what you had to start with. Eliminate the negative from your thoughts and you work from the positive all the time. In short do not acknowledge what you don't have if you want to the full benefit of what you want. Think this is what I need and want. Don't allow yourself to get discouraged because it did not just come about.

How this first worked for me.

I wanted to write, be published and make more money. I became be simply doing all things that pertained to writing. What is writing? It is thoughts plus words on paper equal writing. So, in a year over 260 articles and two books later, I grew closer to my goal. I was published but they haven't sent the Pulitzer yet. The key is I am no longer waiting around for it come. I am taking the actions which each day bring this event closer to being a reality. Now, when I sit down to write I look at this two foot high pile. It consists of my rough drafts and other writing attempts that over time resulted in that goal of creating more money for me. They as any thing we create and accomplish in life are a part of me. They serve as my inspiration. When you change your thoughts, you change your perspective, and you unlock the inspiration that will empower your life.
