10 Great New Edition Songs

Who is New Edition? Besides, them being my favorite boy band/group of all time, they are an all male group that originated Boston in 1978. New Edition are the originators of the boy band era; helping to pave the way for many boy bands. Groups like H-Town, Dru- Hill, Another Bad Creation, N-Sync, New Kids On the Block, and B2K were greatly influenced by there being. Originally the group consisted of five young men. Ronnie Devoe, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Micheal Bivens, and Ralph Tresvant. New Edition reached the height of their career in the mid-eighties ; An though I was only about five years old at the time, I can vividly recall singing along to hits like, Candy-Girl, Earth Angel, Cool it Now, Count Me Out, and Mr. Telephone Man. The group has achieved received major levels of success as they embarked on one of the most successful music careers to date. While New Edition achieved much success and stardom throughout their musical reign, It is rumored that the group's success was limited due to the error of bad management. As a result, of bad management and the entrapment of a bad publishing deal, New Edition embarked on a path to exit the music business without penalty. This resulted in a spin off of several solo careers, as well as the creation of Bell, Biv, Devoe. Bell, Biv, Devoe's reign begin in the early 90's as they were an instant hit on the music scene. Meanwhile, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, and Johnny Gill embarked on very successful solo music careers. The entire group reunited in 1996 with the album entitled "Home Again". On May 3, 2011, New Edition issued a press release on their official website, announcing that again all six members will reunite to kickoff the 30th anniversary of celebration of "Candy Girl" with their fans. New Edition is the group that introduced r&b's badboy Bobby Brown to the world. He made his debut as a singer in the boy band that reached superstardom in the eighties. Bobby rebeled and as a result was kicked out of the group. He then embarked on a path to a great solo career. He released a solo album entitled " Don't Be Cruel". He has several hits from this album. Gaining tons of fans an media attention with the sophomore single "My Prerogative", Bobby Brown went on to become one of r&b's most notorious bad boys; with his sex crazed style of dance and his refusal to conform toany rules or laws. Bobby Brown is also the ex-husband of pop singer Whitney Houston. He has starred in several reality shows and movies. Being Bobby Brown was the reality show that featured the singer and his ex-wife and child. He also co-starred in the move "Thin Line Between Love and Hate" with Martin Lawrence. Most recently he was featured on VH1's reality show Celebrity Fit Club where he lost more than 20 pounds. I am a fan of Bobby Brown as well, i wish him the best, and hope to see him this year at the Essence Festival.

Ralph Tresvant a.k.a the lead singer of the group was introduced to the world by way of New Edition of course. He had the lightest voice of them all. He had an outrageous voice range and this prevailed in hits like "Is This The End"? After New Edition split he embarked on a very promising solo career. He recorded "Sensitivity", and won the hearts of many again climbing the music charts at a rapid paste.

Micheal Bivins the founder of the group New Edition itself, went on to become a mega producer. He is responsible for the spin off of the group, "Bell, Biv, Devoe". The spin off included himself, Ricky Bell, and Ronnie Devoe. Together they acheived great stardom. They recorded hit songs like "Poison", "Do Me", and my all time favorite " Tell Me When Will I See You Smile Again". Micheal Bivens is also responsible for the fouding of several other hip hop acts including, Another Bad Creation, 702, Mc Brains, and the unforgettable Boyz II Men.

Ricky Bell nicknamed slick is the singer on Bell, Biv, Devoes, "Poison", He is another member of Bell Biv Devoe, formerly a member of New Edition also. His singing skills were highly publicized in Bell Biv Devoe, unlike his reign in New Edition he show cased his talent to world.

Ronnie Devoe is the third member of Bell Biv Devoe,and also formerly a member of New Edition. He was know for his great dance skill and b-boy style that prevailed in the group. Along side Ricky Bell, and Micheal Bivens, Devoe, sold of 5 millions albums in their BBD reign. He is currently married to Shamari fears of the r&b group Blaque. He owns a real estate company in Atlanta, Georgia where he resides . He was also my crush out of the group.

Johnny Gill was the sixth member of the group. He replaced Bobby in the group. He also had a very successful solo career. His song "My , My, My", still reigns on various romantic compilation albums. He has an extremely powerful voice, and great stage presence. He also rejoined the group in the 96 reunite of New Edition. I look forward to seeing all of them perform this year at the Essence Festival.
