An Amazing Show with Alton Brown

Alton Brown Live- the Edible Inevitable Tour

I had the opportunity of going with my family to The Alton Brown Live tour when he was in St. Louis at the Fox Theater. It was a gift to my husband who had wanted go, and we all went together. Even though the weather was so bitter cold, we were so happy to have gone.

The theater alone, the Historical Fox, was very impressive. I had never been before. It was very crowded and sold out. Before long, we got to our seats and had a VIP if coffee in hand, I was ready for the show.

Many may know Alton Brown from his show, Good Eats or as host to Iron Chef America. He has a new show as well, called Cut Throat Kitchen.

This particular show was different than anything I had seen him do before and included him singing and playing a guitar in a small band he had, which was really fun. Of course he was clever and witty as ever, and so funny. He did that on and off during the show.

This was earlier on in the show, where Alton and his band were playing some fun songs. They came back and did a few more through the night. It was so fun and funny.

Some Details of the Edible Inevitable Tour

*Possible Spoiler Alert*

This show is still going on, and while it is I don't want to spoil any ideas for people! Consider this a fair warning, and I wouldn't read any further if you have tickets to go.

As for demonstrations with cooking, he did do a couple of things. The difference was he created the machines he used to "cook" or prepare the dishes, and it was so fascinating! Anyone that knows Alton Brown knows how intelligent he is and how he seems to truly enjoy incorporating science into his demonstrations. Science has a lot to do with food and its preparation, who knew!

For instance, he used fire extinguishers as part of the propulsion in a machine to create a carbonated chocolate ice cream! Somehow, liquid nitrogen was used as well. Boy, I wish I could have tasted that, it sounded so good!

He spoke also of one of his favorite things from childhood, the easy bake oven. He recreated a huge one of his own, and wow! It felt like we were observing the creations if a mad scientist, and I mean that in a positive way of course. With the oven he created, they made pizzas. They looked so good! It was quite a wild ride.

Forth both the ice cream and the pizza, he used audience participation. It was hilarious and so entertaining.

If you ever have the opportunity, I would highly recommend seeing Alton Brown in person. He is a good guy and so funny and intelligent, which made for an entertaining show.

There is so much more I could say about this night, but you get the idea. He took a picture of all of us in the crowd too at one point, and it was just a lot of fun. Later he posted it on twitter.

Our family appreciates Alton Brown and think he is an amazing cook. For instance, we have used his ideas for cooking a Thanksgiving turkey every year with an amazing brine, etc. It makes for the most tender and amazingly flavorful turkey. I would look that up if you are remotely interested in it. I have never tasted a better one.

Before the show, as an aside, one of the neat things about social media is that an an artist or celebrity can be on their Twitter and be talking about different things, etc. It was so very cold and rainy when he was here. I recalled my son showing me a picture of him in the rain, looking for some good coffee! He was able to find some before long, and we learned too that he was considering where to eat, etc. One of our favorite places, Pi Pizzeria in St. Louis was what he had for dinner. They delivered some of their favorite pizza. He is just a really fun and intelligent yet down to earth guy.

I think the shows for this particular tour are almost winding up, but I could be wrong. There is a site online that shows the upcoming shows that is easily found with an online search. There is a show still in Sarasota Florida, for instance. It looks like Alton Brown entertained all across the United States. Quite a busy tour! If you don't make it on this go around, do try to get your tickets as early as you can, because they sell out rather quickly. I thought I was way ahead of the game, but it turned out I was not at all.

We were so glad we went, and it was a wonderful time. I would highly recommend going to a show of Alton's any time. He is a lot of fun and entertaining.
