To misuse and abuse the phone number 911 for any other purpose other than emergency situations can be considered a crime. Most agencies don't normally keep separate totals on the number of prank calls, so it's hard to say just how many prank calls 911 operators receive each and every day, however there's often a surprise from law enforcement waiting for those who make these calls. There are both unintentional and intentional prank calls, and the intentional calls are the one's that land people in hot water. Often times drinking alcohol beverages and dialing the number 911 just doesn't mix. A 57 year old man on his birthday called 911 after he had a lot to drink to file a complaint with the 911 operator that nobody would help him celebrate his birthday. You'd think that this alone would get the birthday boy in hot water with the police, however when the police showed up at the man's door he was greeted with a small birthday cake from the officers. This is where you would think that this story ends with a happy ending, however a few hours after the law left he called 911 with the same complaint again. This time when the police officers arrived they found the man walking down the side of the road drinking a bottle of vodka, and you guessed it, they arrested him for being intoxicated in a public place. Just remember that drinking and dialing 911 isn't a joke and can lead to some serious repercussions.
Other 911 calls involve a lady calling 911 because a fast food restaurant wouldn't make a cheeseburger the way she wanted it. Children as young as four years old call 911 to ask for help with their homework for school. A woman called 911 and asked the operator if she could explain to her how to cook a turkey. A man called 911 because he ran out of gas and wanted them to bring him some so that he could get back on his way to a bar. A woman called 911 three times to tell 911 operators that her roommate was trying to take beer away from her. A police officer called 911 after eating one to many pot brownies which he confiscated and had taken from suspects earlier that day. A man called 911 because he misplaced his NCAA March Madness predictions, and he wanted to update his brackets. A teenager called 911 because she had a $20 bet at stake on the name of the actor who played Darren on the television show Bewitched, and she wanted the name verified so that she could collect her winnings.
