DVDs to Watch in Preparation of Disneyland Trip
Getting ready for a Disney trip can be stressful with travel arrangements, finding the money, or other things, but it can also be exciting and fun. There are many movies that relate to the different rides and attractions at Disneyland and this Hub will give a list of some of the movies related to things at Disneyland. It is by no means extensive, so please comment if you have a favorite Disney movie related to Disneyland that I did not include. I am organizing the DVDs I recommend in sections based on the different lands they most relate to.
General Disneyland DVDs
Sing Along Songs: Disneyland Fun - This is a litle bit out of date showing the Country Bears and the Skyway, which no longer exist at Disneyland, but it is a fun sing along songs DVD that gives a little bit of a tour of the park along with some great songs.
Walt Disney Treasures Disneyland Secrets, Stories, & Magic - This is a 2 disc set with lots of great footage about Disneyland. It includes stuff related to the making of Disneyland, the early years of Disneyland, and some attractions no longer there along with some of the things that still remain after all these years, such as Dumbo.
New Orleans Square DVDs
Haunted Mansion: This movie came after the ride, so the movie is inspired by the ride. This one really integrates some great parts of the ride, such as the singing heads in the graveyard. It is kind of scary, but the ride is certainly not as scary at least in my opinion. It is also not too bad in the end.
Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy - The three movies were inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in New Orleans Square. Since then parts of the movie have been added to the ride, such as Jack Sparrow. The three movies in the trilogy are Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
Sing Along Songs: Happy Haunting - This is a fun Halloween themed party sing along set at Disneyland. It mostly focuses on the Haunted Mansion ride for the setting.
Critter Country DVD
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - This movie is the feature film Pooh movie related to the ride that is in Critter Country. There are also several other Winnie the Pooh DVDs that you could watch to prepare for a Disney trip, but this one is my top choice.
Adventureland DVDs
Indiana Jones movies: I honestly am not sure which Indiana Jones movie the ride is based on, but they all have the action and adventure that goes along with the ride. The movies are Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Art, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (the one I think it might be based on), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (definitely not based on this one, as the ride is much older than this release).
Tarzan movies: There are several Tarzan movies, although the original Tarzan is the best in my opinon. They all kind of relate to the Tarzan's Treehouse attraction in Adventureland. The other Disney Tarzan movies are Tarzan & Jane and Tarzan II.
Mickey's Toontown DVDs
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers - There are two volume DVD sets of this television show starring Chip and Dale, who have a treehouse attraction in Toontown.
Classic Cartoon Favorites Volume 1: Starring Mickey - There are plenty of Mickey DVDs to choose to relate to this area of Disneyland. This is just one possibility. There are also some other ones in the Classic Cartoon series that are good for this area, such as Volume 2 featuring Donald, Volume 3 featuring Goofy, and Volume 10 featuring Mickey and Minnie.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit? - This release relates to the Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin ride in Toontown.
Fantasyland DVDs
Alice in Wonderland - This movie has a themed ride in Fantasyland with the same name. The Mad Tea Party ride is also based on this movie.
Dumbo - This movie also has two rides in Fantasyland themed off of it. There is Dumbo the Flying elephant and the Casey Jr. Circus Train ride.
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride - This movie is based on The Wind and the Willows and is related to the inspiration for this ride. I believe this came after the ride and the true inspiration for the ride is the story that is part of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.
Peter Pan - The Disney classic is what the ride in Fantasyland is based off of, but it might be also fun to watch the Return to Neverland sequel and the recent Tinkerbell movie, as they share some of the same characters as the original. There is also the Sing Along Songs You Can Fly!
Pinocchio - This movie has a ride themed to it. Also, the whale is the entrance to the Storybook Land Canal Boats ride that includes many other Disney movie scenes that do not have there own rides.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves - This is another movie that has a themed ride related to the movie.
The Sword and the Stone - The carousel ride is named after the Arthur character in this movie. There is also a fun try to pull the sword from the stone spot and ceremony near the carousel.
Tomorrowland DVDs
Buzz Lighyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins - This movie is the spin off from Toy Story to Buzz having his own tv series. This is also kind of more related to the ride than the Toy Story movies.
Finding Nemo - The submarine ride now has a theme related to the Finding Nemo movie.
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids - This is the inspiration for the Honey, I Shrunk the Audience attraction in Tomorrowland.
