Kelly Clarkson's Already Gone and Beyonce's Halo- The Connection

KELLY CLARKSON'S SONG, ALREADY GONE AND BEYONCE'S SONG, HALO - THE CONNECTION

Two songs that I adore are Halo by Beyonce and Already Gone by Kelly Clarkson. As I became familiar with each of the songs, Halo and Already Gone, I began to hear more about the controversy surrounding them.

For both songs, the music was written and arranged by a songwriter that I think is truly amazing. This surely contributes to why I like these songs so much. The songwriter is Ryan Tedder, the lead singer for the band OneRepublic. They have created other songs that I love such as Apologize.

Ryan Tedder collaborated with Kelly Clarkson to co-write the song Already Gone.

 Tedder also collaborated with Beyonce and music executive/songwriter Evan Bogart to write Halo.

 Already Gone was the first song to be written in early 2008 while Halo was written later in 2008.

When Kelly Clarkson first heard Halo, she noticed notable similarities to her own song Already Gone. The similarities are specific to the music at the beginning of each of the songs, not the lyrics.

Of course, this is not an ideal situation. According to various sources, Clarkson was said to feel that the reuse of material compromised her originality and perhaps she would be accused of stealing the music.

Tedder was said to be insulted by the controversy and had the best of intentions when collaborating to prepare both songs.

Whatever the case may be, there is no denying that Ryan Tedder has a true gift for writing songs and arranging music.

I love all of these songs! They touch on the various topics of having love, losing love, heartbreak, sadness. They are written with depth and meaning. I love the music composition as much as the lyrics or more.
