My Top 5 Feel Good Family Movies
A Good Laugh and a Good Cry
I love to laugh and sometimes I need a good cry, there are some movies that are able to give me both of these sensations in one sitting. Do you like movies that teach morals? Do you like movies that focus on family? Do you like movies that center on faith? Movies that make you laugh and cry? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions then you will probably enjoy the following movies too. These movies are some of my absolute favorites because they make me feel good, they make me cry, they make me laugh, and sometimes they even inspire me. I believe in God and some of these movies reflect that belief, I included them because I think they are wonderful family films.
1. Courageous
Yes this is a Christian drama so if you do not believe in God it may not be your cup of tea. But for those who believe in God, most faiths can appreciate and enjoy this movie. Courageous is about four men (adding a 5th later on) who come together and vow to do better at their jobs of being great fathers. After studying out what it is that makes a good father they write up their own declaration of sorts that each of them sign as a commitment to their families, their children, and their God. This particular movie has some very heart wrenching moments, so be ready with the tissues. My favorite part is the end when the main character/father is giving a talk on Father’s Day and he asks all men of faith to stand up and answer the call and to say “I will,” it is very inspirational and moving.

2. Spy Kids
Spy Kids is a fantastic family movie, one that you can watch with the kids and laugh and enjoy right along with them. This movie is about a brother and a sister, who don’t really get along, who find out their parents are actual Spies. The kids find out that their parents have been taken away and they need to find out who took them, why, and how to get them back. As the movie progresses the children and their parents learn about the importance of family and not keeping secrets. This is one of my favorite family friendly/feel good movies because it makes me laugh and it reminds me of the importance of family.

3. The Croods
This movie was actually released sometime in 2013. The Croods is an extremely funny family/feel good film that will have you and your kids laughing so hard you will cry. What do you get when you put an overly protective dad in caveman times? A thickheaded dad who will do anything to protect his family, including telling them that they always need to be afraid and never to try anything new. Of course, when you pair that kind of dad with an inquisitive and curious daughter, it doesn’t always go the way HE plans. The family goes through the loss of their home and in order to find a new one they need to try things they have never done before, including getting help from a new friend. Get ready to laugh and have fun with this one because The Croods is, in my opinion, one of the best family films that's come out in a long time.

4. What To Expect When You are Expecting
Now I will put a stipulation on my recommendation of this movie, it is not for children. This movie includes innuendos and language that are not appropriate for children so obviously it is not so much of a family movie. However, this is one of my favorite movies because I am currently pregnant and I can relate to a lot of what happens. It is also extremely funny. This is the movie I want to watch when I want to laugh about all the normal things that happen in everyday family/pregnant life; it is not always fun and there is a lot of pain involved… but worth it in the end. The ending is amazing and beautiful and in my case it made me want to have children.

5. Mom’s Night Out
I saw this movie in the theater and I laughed so hard I thought I was going to get kicked out of the theater for being too loud. Mom’s Night Out is a great movie for mothers, or for those who are going to become mothers like me. This movie shows the ups and downs of parenthood in a funny way that makes you want to appreciate the good things and the small moments of joy in life. This movie was only rated G, it was clean, it was appropriate, and it was funny (a package you don’t see too often anymore). This movie also mentions God and faith. I will probably be buying this movie when it comes out because I liked it so much.

Are Any of these Films a Favorite of Yours?
Summing it Up
These movies are my favorites right now because (most of them) I can watch with friends and family without worrying about jumping up to skip a part that is inappropriate or bleeping out profanities. They make me laugh, they make me cry, and they inspire me to do better and to appreciate my family. I love movies that make me feel good, they make me want to be a better person and even if I have to take a break for two hours to watch one of these movies in order to feel that way, I think it is worth it.
