Netflix Orginal Documentary: The Short Game
The Short Game is a documentary about the lives of the World's best 7 and 8 year old golfers.
The documentary is reminiscent of the Brooklyn Castle, the film about the phenomenal success that a public school in New York City has had with it's chess team, winning year after year. Brooklyn Castle is also available on Netflix streaming.
Granted, many may be turned off by the subject of golf, however the documentary is more about the perseverance of kids so young and the parents that support their goals.
One of the main characters is, Allan Kournikova, the younger brother of tennis phenom, Anna Kournikova It's an interesting study in how so many children within the same family are modeled into overachievers.
The Short Game will be available on Netflix streaming on 12/12/13.
Hard Eight
Hard Eight
One of the better films coming to Netflix streaming in December is Paul Thomas Anderson's, Hard Eight.
Hard Eight is the film Anderson made before his break out hit Boogie Nights. Hard Eights features John C Reilly as a down on his luck loser stranded in Reno when a a local small time gambler played by Phillip Baker Hall takes pity on him and teaches him the ropes on how to support himself.
The film also casts Gwyneth Paltrow as a dim witted cocktail waitress who also turns tricks when low on cash.
Hard Eight is a slow burning character study where the plot is underwhelming but the acting more than makes up for it.
Hard Eight is available to stream on Netflix in December.

Where the Buffalo Roam
Where the Buffalo Roam is based on the writings and experiences of "gonzo" journalist Hunter S. Thompson.
Thompson played by Bill Murray and his attorney played by Peter Boyle meander through America in a drunken, drug stupor on a mission that isn't all that clear.
In one clever scene Thompson stages a fake broadcast of the Super Bowl from his hotel room.
Where the Buffalo Roam received a 75% positive rating by viewers on the Rotten Tomatoes review site, however, only 25% of critics liked the film.
Where the Buffalo Roam will be available on Netflix streaming in December.

What The Best Netflix Orginal?
Netflix Orginals
Along with movies and television shows, Netflix has also branched out into producing their own material. Some of these shows are already drawing critical acclaim and winning Emmy Awards such as House of Cards.
Netflix currently has released 5 original productions including, House of Cards, Lillyhammer, Orange is the New Black, Derek and Hemlock Grove.
Netflix wants to be the new HBO by becoming not only a provider of entertainment but also producing must see series. House of Cards has already been green lighted for a third season. The political drama stars, Kevin Spacey as a wheeling and dealing Congressman and his equally devious wife.
Netflix also produced a new season of the hit series, Arrested Development which was only made available on Netflix streaming; not on regular television.
Given the success of these self produced shows, look to Netflix to keep making cutting edge series in the future.
Netlix has grown its subscriber base to over 40 million partly based on the success of shows such as The House of Cards and Orange is the New Black.
Netflix is the new model for entertainment and their cutting edge strategy has rocketed their stock price over the last year from the $50 range to well over $300 per share!
Derek: A Netflix Original
Derek: A Netflix Original
Derek stars Ricky Gervais as an autistic employee of a retirement home in England.
Some of the humor is akin to what Gervais did in the original, The Office but also has some very touching moments as well.
Although mentally challenged Derek is gifted when it comes to being kind. He is, in essence a perfect employee for a retirement home, where many of the residents are near death and many have been forgotten by their families.
Throughout the series we watch as Derek deals with the passing of several residents whom he has truly come to love.
Derek is an excellent show both for it's humor and perhaps more importantly for its commentary on the human condition.
Derek is available on Netflix streaming in December.
American Horror Story Season 2
One of the best new series on television, American Horror story is available to view on Netflix streaming through season 2.
Season 3 of American Horror Story, The Coven is currently being televised.
Oddly enough, American Horror Story is made by the same producers that created the hit series Glee. American Horror Story is the polar opposite of the the show Glee. While Glee is upbeat and happy, American Horror Story is dark and scary.
American Horror Story is not for the faint of heart, there are many gruesome scenes in each season. Many viewers even have commented on the opening credits as being cringe inducing. However if you enjoy the horror genre there is none better on television than American Horror Story.
Each season of American Horror Story tells a stand along tale although many of the actors remain the same from season to season.
Season one of American Horror Story was about a haunted house, season two about a run down mental asylum and season three deals with the trials and tribulations of a group of modern day witches residing in New Orleans.
All three seasons of American Horror Story have excellent writing and some of the best acting you will see on television. The show is anchored by the top notch Jessica Lang and she has a stellar cast of supporting actors working with her.
The success of the show has drawn some top notch talent for later seasons, including Adam Levine who appears in season 2 and Kathy Bates a main character in season 3.
Season 1 and 2 of American Horror Story is now available to stream on Netflix.
