Pretty Little Liars -- The Case For Aria Being A

Updated on March 17, 2012

Granted, when I first started thinking about it, I thought it was a ludicrous idea. But there's a lot of weird stuff going on with A in regards to Aria.

First off, why did A wait an entire year to start tormenting the Pills. Why did she wait until Aria returned to town to start it up. Could it be because Aria is A and A couldn't start her campaign of terror until Aria got back to town to do it? Aria was the first one A texted but Aria hasn't gotten half the trouble or even a quarter of the trouble from A that Spencer, Hanna and Emily have gotten.

Allison [whether ghost or real] has visited Hanna, Emily and Spencer, but she's never paid a visit to Aria. Of course, most of those visitations have happened after the three girls have gotten hurt because of A. Aria has never gotten hurt because of A. Which makes you ask the question why? If A waited to go after all the Pills until they were reunited and Aria was back in town, why hasn't Aria gotten it as bad as the other girls?

In the Winter Finale, A demanded the Pills do something or the psychiatrist would suffer the price, since she vanished and it appeared A had kidnapped her. Spencer had to break-up with Toby. Hanna had to stop her father's wedding, thus making her father hate her for doing it. What was Aria's task? To blackmail the woman that was causing trouble for her and Ezra to leave town. She wasn't being forced to make someone that she loved hate her. Quite the contrary, she was getting rid of a thorn in her side and clearing the way for her and Ezra. Of course, it backfired on her when the person she blackmailed turned around and blackmailed her. But that had nothing to do with A. What A did was helping her, while hurting Spencer and Hanna and making them hurt the people they loved. So why is Aria so special in regards to A and not forced to hurt someone she loves?

The Pills learned that Allison was going around calling herself Vivian Darkbloom. It's an acronym for Vladimir Nabokov the author of the novel, Lolita, and Vivian Darkbloom is a character in Lolita. Hanna said Allison seemed fascinated by the book before she died. When Allison dressed up as Vivian she seemed to be disguising herself to look like Aria. Now, I'm assuming Aria started up her relationship with Ezra after Allison died, so is it possible Aria was involved with Ezra before Allison died or is it possible Ezra isn't the first older man Aria was involved with.

Of course, is Allison was dressing up as Vivian to try to figure out who A was, then she wouldn't know Aria was A, so why would she dress up like her? That is the big question. If the fake name and identity is about Aria, why did Allison dress up like her?

When A sent a letter to Byron so he could catch Aria meeting with Ezra, Aria didn't make the meeting. Supposedly because she was so concerned about Holden. But the result was the same. Aria ended up not being harmed by A.

When the school was in lock-down A appeared to write a message on a scroll put up for students to write things anonymously. A appeared to write, "I'm AFAAID OF MY FATHER." That could fit Aria to a tee, as she was afraid of her father finding out she was still sneaking around with Ezra.

When Ashley began to get on to the whole A thing, Mona came up with a plan to get her off the scent. Aria was declared to be the best liar of the group. Then she went to Ashley claiming she was A. A for Aria. Wouldn't it be ironic if the writers actually let us know who A was before the official unmasking.

In the last episode Aria played a move that was truly very A of her. She threatened to turn her father in for having sex with a student which would ruin his career if he didn't stop trying to get between her and Ezra.

And it may not mean anything but in a photo of the Pills at the masked ball unmasking A, Aria is the only Pill wearing black gloves, which are a trademark of A.

Granted there seems to be no reason why Aria would terrorize and try to kill her supposedly three best friends. But you have to admit there is something off in how little harassment and trouble she's gotten from A in comparison to Hanna, Spencer and Emily.
