Eyes of Forgotten Innocence: She's Just A Girl
She's Just A Girl
This is a semi free verse poem which I set to music. It was supposed to be a freebie with the book I wrote to raise awareness of the dangers of the Internet for kids, but I never could find someone to play the music. It will just have to wait I guess. At least until I know enough about writing notes to do the music myself.
Because it is a song, you will notice that the cadence seems off if you read it like you would a poem. Remember that in some places the words are carried or broken up to fit the musical phrasing I have chosen. Maybe someday I'll release an A Capella (or even full production) of the song here on Hubpages.com.
Enjoy!
Never really knew her father.
Didn't wanna be like her mother.
But every step she took caused her to be.
Stars in her eyes were just twinkling lights,
They never shone bright enough to guide her.
Would she know how to follow them any way?
CHORUS
She’s just a girl. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
She’s just a girl. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh She's just a girl
Turn off the lights and lay there in the bed, Shared too often with just a stranger.
One touch too much to know she’s still breathing.
So near to those who don't see her fear.
Her faded smile hides a shameful lullaby.
Tenders the pain as she slowly bleeds out her soul.
And
She’s just a girl. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
She’s just a girl. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
She's just a girl, she is.
BRIDGE
The doctor says “Take this.”
Her shrink says “Do that.”
What could they know?
A needed friend, dismissed.
Good advice looks old hat.
When you take no time to see that... [SPOKEN] She’s just a girl. She’s just a girl. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh She’s just a girl. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
She's just a girl, she is.
Never really knew her father.
Didn't wanna be like her mother.
But every step she took caused her to be....
