Songs Of Inspiration

Sometimes you need some inspiration. You might need it because you are going through a bad time, or because you want to share some great advice with a son or daughter. Sometimes you just need to hear a great, feel good song. Here are some great inspirational country songs to help you in just about any situation.

As always, they are in no particular order....

When I was going through my horrible divorce, I kept hearing a song by Rodney Atkins that really helped me out. In the song, he says “If you’re going through hell, keep on going…you might get out before the devil even knows you’re there.” This helped me to get through some really tough times –not just the divorce itself, but the beginning foray into dating, as well.

This song can be helpful to anyone going through any kind of hard time...

A song I love to hear – good mood or bad mood – is by Travis Tritt. In the song, he says that he’s in a great mood, and it’s not because of drugs or alcohol – it’s just because it’s a wonderful day to be alive. I listen to this song in the mornings to get pumped up for work – and during an especially bad day to remind me that every day is a great day to be alive.

Lee Ann Womack sings a song full of advice I would give to my own daughters. It’s a song that I listened to often with my own two daughters – who often made fun of the lyrics that said “Don't let some hell bent heart; Leave you bitter; When you come close to selling out ; Reconsider” always changing that last word to “Choose the highest bidder…” Although we got a laugh out of it, they also got a lot of great advice from the song.

I strive to be a good person. I know I am not perfect – but I want to try to be the best I can be. I want to be the kind of person my children can look up to and be proud of. In this song, Martina McBride also wants to be the best she can be. To be the person “in my daughter’s eyes…”

What would you do if you had just one day left to live? Hopefully, you would live it to your fullest and show your family how much you cared about them. Sammy Kershaw sings about a close call that causes him to think about what he would do. He would live like he had one day left to live.

I wish for many things for my children. I want them to be happy, of course. I want them to live full and fulfilling lives. I want the best for them and I want them to want the best for themselves. Most of all, like Rascal Flatts says, I hope that “life becomes all (they) want it to…”

When my husband was in his early 40’s he got a cancer diagnosis. Of course, the “C” word scared us both and, as with many people, he was sure that it meant a death sentence. At about this same time Tim McGraw came out with this song and reminded him that he needed to stop worrying and to start to “Live like you were dying!” Several years later now and my husband is, at this moment in time, cancer free.

When life gets you down – and you feel like you just can’t take one moment more, take some more advice from Rascal Flatts, and just “Stand!” I could do a complete article on inspirational songs from Rascal Flatts – there are quite a few on the CD called “Me and My Gang.”

Martina McBride is from a small Kansas town and she has daughters of her own. Many of her songs are songs that I want to share with my own daughters because they are so inspirational. I love the lyrics in this song. Basically it says that no matter what you do in life, it can be taken away from you in the blink of an eye….but do it “Anyway!”

Another song that tells you that life just isn’t always what you expect is from Gary Allen. He should know – he lost a wife to suicide and was left with five children to raise. Instead of giving up and hiding away, he chose to tell us all that “Life ain’t always beautiful, but it’s a beautiful ride.” Sometimes it helps us all to remember that.

Sometimes we meet people who are a little different from us. They might have a different type of family – have more or less money than we do – have a different lifestyle – take different chances than we do. Garth Brooks reminds us that this is okay. He also reminds us that “Life is not tried, it’s merely survived, if you’re standing outside the fire….”

These are just some of the songs that inspire me. They are songs that get me up when I am down. They are songs that I share with my children and my friends when I want to give them advice, but I have no wise words to share with them. I hope you can find some inspiration in them, as well.
